Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Airparrot doesn't work for me. And why should any Mac user have to spend hours reading about upgrade compatibilities?

Apple software should work as advertised, or they should stop badgering us for updates. ITunes 11 is horrendous, as is Mountain Lion, and I'm sorry I upgraded to either one.

I wish there was an easy way to un-upgrade and just get my money back on this lumbering version that doesn't do half of what it promised it would because I didn't read the fine print. Forgive me Apple for not having the most expensive up to date piece of hardware you sell. My bad.

The easy way to go back is to restore the backup you made before you upgraded, you did backup I assume?

This is bush. I "mirror" all the comments here. It really does anger me that Apple sold me a $99 Apple TV ($127 with HDMI cable) and a $9.99 app works better. Shame on you Apple. I'm kinda of glad to see your stocks drop. I've been an Apple guy since my Performa 575. You should treat us and not the dollar better. How do the words "Class Action" sound?

Way to go Kitchenpan. I feel the same. I am new with Apple Products and I feel very disappointed. I have an iMac 27", iPad, iPod, iPod Touch, and iPhone. Apple does not have any respect to their customers, they don't like your loyalty, they just want your money.

Which of your Macs does AirParrot work on? I have a Mac mini and a Macbook Pro, two Apple TVs in different rooms, and I can't get either one to work with AirParrot or with Mountain Lion mirroring. Is there some trick to getting it to work?

I've been using Macs since 1992 so you would think they would appreciate their loyal customers and make things a bit easier.

I have many external drives with old backups and it's a PITA to back up hundreds and hundreds of GBs of data. Apple's software should just work if it's a new release. Who has the time to spend backing up enormous hard drives on my numerous Macs before doing a 19.99 upgrade that is supposed to be so fantabulous. What could go wrong? It's an official release. It should work right? Not always. This is why I hate OS new releases .... if it's not broke, why are they always trying to fix it?

Apple should put "this doesn't work on xxx (most) Macs" in BIG letters under their software ads online and everywhere else so we aren't duped into hoping one of their software claims will actually apply to us with our old ancient 2010-2011 Macs.

If you value the data it's not a PITA, it is a necessity

I've read that some people shut down their tv, computer and Apple Tv and then restart them all. I've tried that and it didn't work. The point is, one shouldn't have to do that. I can only get Airplay to work with iTunes. I don't need to use it there. It's just wrong. If I sell one of my sculptures, I stand behind it if anything goes wrong. I don't see Apple fixing their wrong and based on all the complaints that are posted here and on different websites they have a big wrong. It's just not right. I'm not happy with this product. Steve must be rolling in his grave. I'd go have a talk with him, but I might get lost, if you know what I mean.

Oh please. It can be necessary sometimes to reboot a router, Apple TV, computer, etc. sometimes because of WiFi network synchonization problems that can caused by a myriad of issues including channel interference, static electricity, etc. And this can happen on anybodies hardware.

I can use my MacBook Pro with my Apple TV every time. If you have the hardware that supports AirPlay mirroring then you should be able to do the same. If you don't have the necessary hardware then you can't use it but you can try AirParrot.

Mr. Jobs would have no issue with this whatsover, he adopted and pushed new hardware all the time and was not concerned with backwards compatibility. If you read the posts here then you know that the new AirPlay mirroring feature is not an Apple feature at all, it is an Intel invention in their latest chipsets. If you had a 2 year old Dell you would not have mirroring. If you had a recent Dell you would have a new chipset and be able to mirror on it.

Well since you asked...... Mirroring to Apple TV does not work at all, even with Air Parrot, either with my Mac Mini or my Macbook Pro. I was told it could be my router ... or any number of other things.

As a whole Mountain Lion is slow and sluggish on both of my Macs compared to 10.6. Also Mail keeps crashing on both computers. Sometimes iTunes 11 oversizes itself and fills my screen. Etc.

I can't even get AirParrot to work so there must be something else going on besides just Mountain Lion.

deggie -- How old is your Macbook Pro?

Just under a year old.

That's why everything is working good for you. My Macs are a year older which makes them nearly obsolete.

No, the 3 year old MacBook Pro this one replaced s running Mountain Lion just fine, it actually booted faster and loaded programs quicker than it did with Lion. And it ran AirParrot. Of course it could not do AirPlay Mirroring, it doesn't have the hardware required. My 2007 MacPro, running Lion (it can't run ML), does exactly what I want it to do, does it well, and is in no way obsolete. The 2 year old iMac that my neighbor has is running ML without a problem.
