Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

This thread is about mirroring not just AirPlay. With mirroring there is an icon at your top menu and you can replicate your screen to your TV.

Hei Deggie, thanks for that. I thought my question was to do with mirroring as when i choose to mirror the imac by clicking the icon on the top menu the screen does not replicate on to the TV via the AppleTV unit. I only get audio and no image just a black screen. So my question is why is the mirroring not working on my imac mid 2011 which has airport fully updated and Appletv updated.

Just so you will know in the future, if you look at my post I was responding to FlavioB.

In your case for some items, such as iTunes Store movies, etc., you have to use the application itself not mirroring.

But if i just want to mirror the imac (as it does with no problems from my mac air) is there a way to do this? On paper it seems i have met all the parameters to mirror the imac.

Can you mirror the just the active page of your Mac?

I'm a newbie here and to mac i suppose. when we say mirroring i take that to mean that my imac desktop and all that occurs on that should be 'mirrored' to the TV via Airport Utility and AppleTV.

When i open up my imac i have the airplay mirroring icon displayed on the top right menu. i have the option to choose Apple Tv. when i click this my imac screen goes blue for a second then the appletv menu on my TV turns black and my imac display is slightry resized and less sharp.

If i choose itunes i can play audio and videos (video is from podcasts). Safari or my desktop are not mirrored. neither is iphoto for example. However audio is streaming to the tv from these programmes via the appletv. So it seems that true mirroring is not accuring. Apps such as Beamer do work.

I have discovered the same problem however my Imac fits the criteria for system requirements. How do I turn on the airplay icon? I have OS X 10.7.5 as my operating system and my computer is a late 2011 machine. Can someone help me out with my new Apple TV?

You have to have Mountain Lion.

I have mountain Lion on my Mac, and when I click on the little window in my tool bar, all I see is different screen resolutions. What a farce.

Did you select one of the resolutions?

I believe so, it just says Lion and gives the numeric info.

Okay guys, need a little tip on readings posts. If you read the header at the top right this one will say (in response to Hzmatguy). My last one was to Toyworks 11.

You have to purchase Mountain Lion, currently 10.8.3, in order to use Airplay Mirroring.

Let's go with mirroring: I have Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and I have the AirPlay Icon in the menu bar. As I'm using Firefox now, I just clicked that icon and chose "Apple TV". This, I suppose, should have started mirroring my screen to the Apple TV. That didn't happen!

What happened was that my mouse pointer turned to a colored spinning wheel, the MacBook Pro screen turned blue for a couple of seconds, than got back to a slightly reduced Firefox Window (the lower part of this window now had been pulled a bit upwards).

What do you suggest me to do now?

Where are you guys coming up with the morroring thing on mac? When I click on the icon in the top menue bar, this is all that comes up

Does Parrot look as good as a Mac that is being mirrored?
