Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Never mind. Just realized my iMac is too old. Late 2009.

AirPlay will only work for mid 2011. 😟

I'm going to apologize because I see where many of you have gotten confused. But this discussion is about upgrding to Mountian Lion and not getting Air Play capabilities. The link I posted clearly states in the Mountian Lion technical specs that Air Play is only supported on certian macs.

Like I said, I see where the confusion is regarding the Apple TV pages, but is is spelled out on the ML pages.

Thanks for the apology Mike. But for me and probably the original poster its about both ML and Atv, as they are both neccessary for airplay mirroring. As I mentioned before, on 27th July 2012 there was no mention of compatibility issues. I agree it is mentioned now, although in small print, but on 27th July certainly on the Australia apple ML site there was no mention of it at. I think it may have been altered after some complaints about people buying it on the basis that they beleived it would work on all imacs.

Even now I cant imagine what good reason Apple can have to put a major issue in small print. Small print is where you want to hide stuff. And if mirroring is such a small feature of Mountain lion as a whole, then why not put that feature at the end in small print instead of making a big splash about it. I think this is the crux of the whole discussion.

Hi, i dont quite sure if u saying mirroring on beamer. Is it "just airplay or airplay mirroring". Its totally different dude. I haven't try this beamer software yet. But as i see on the website. Its just can do airplay to apple tv which for u to watch movie or video from beamer (drag and drop). Its not mirroring the whole screen from ur mac to apple tv.

Considering beamer can airplay to apple tv. I think its a good way to watch video file through beamer than u use itunes to airplay such a pain. Cause we don't have to covert the format which just support by itunes to do airplay....

Hy Mike.

I didn't take the time to read over the whole 71 pages of this thread, thus I may be missing some infos. Nevertheless, here's my question: as I have an "early 2011" MacBook Pro 13", why am I not able to have the MacBook Desktop (and all the rest on it) shown on the TV? What I desume from the link you posted:

http://support.apple.com/kb/SP654

is that my MacBook Pro is supported for AirPlay mirroring!

Also, I am absolutely 1000% sure of having been able to watch a movie on my TV via AirPlay, which was being played from my MacBook a couple of months ago.

Any help will be appreciated.

Kind regards,

F.
