Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Never mind. Just realized my iMac is too old. Late 2009.

AirPlay will only work for mid 2011. 😟

Once again you side step the point. I am beginning to think deliberately. I, in Australia on the Australian apple website was not informed that I had to have specific hardware in my imac in order for the for the mirroring feature included in the mountain lion operating system upgrade to work. Niether the ML blurb or the Atv blurb mentioned this.

IS what I am saying wrong? NO ITS NOT.

Address that point and only that point please.

I dont need to know why they utilised a certain feature of a chipset. I am not I.T.

I dont need to know that my engine needs a flywheel in order to work. I am not a mechanic.

All I need to know is am I gonna get what I was told I was gonna get. Be it a working engine or mirroring on my imac. If I might not get what is being offered then i need to be informed under which circumstances this might be the case. This did not happen, At least on Apples Australian webpage.

Fully expecting you to either side step the problem or ignore it all together.

After having got on with a few other things in my very happy life. I thought i might come back and make this point.

If Apple are so honest why did they feel the need to add caveats in small print WHY NOT IN LARGE PRINT where it cant be missed? Because they didnt want people to notice it thats why. And it worked shed loads of people missed it. And thats just the people in the US. what about people who didnt even get it in small print to find in other parts of the world?

This whole small print thing should stay in the realms of the sleezy back street car salesmen where it belongs not with a premium end global company such as Apple.

Small print is where you want to hide stuff and THATS THE TRUTH OF IT.

This is completely outrageous!!!!! My wife bought me the Apple TV so that we could stream our Alumni football games. Guess what, there is no ESPN3 app for the Apple TV. No Problem I say, I will upgrade our iMac to allow Airplay mirrorring. Guess what Apple Does it again!!!! they do not allow all systems that can run their operating system to perform this function even though everything works on the same wireless network!!

Thanks Apple!!!!

The information is clearly listed, not in small print, in the Techncal Specifications for Mountian Lion on the Apple AU site

http://support.apple.com/kb/SP654

You don't need to be IT and you don't need to be a mechanic but I'll bet you don't look at a car and say "I'm going to buy that one.....it's pretty". If all of you whiners are so unhappy go back to Windows.....I heard that Microsoft doesn't use fine print.

Mike. If you had bothered to read all of my posts you will see that I said that shortly after ML releases there was no mention of it. It has later been amended. But if you look at the AU apple tv website you will see there is no mention of imac compatibility, Only that ML is required. To date this has not been amended to read the same as the US site

For your info the last pc's i bought in the last 6 months are on windows. 7 not 8 I hasten to add because 8 is terrible
