iMessage on Mountain Lion problem

iMessage on Mountain Lion. Can't get it to synchronise with my iPhone. Have signed in to iMessage on the new Message app component of Snow Lion, it seems to be working but no mirror image appearing on other device. Anyone any idea what I am doing wrong?

hi guys,

i am having trouble with my imessage with mountain lion on my late 2009 15 macbook pro.

first i got it updated i was able to get the pictures from the people who i chat with, then i wasn't able to get them, i could see them on my iphone 4s but not on my computer's imessage. now iphone doesn't get some photos. on my computer i can see them just for a moment then they disappear there is an icon and "TEXT" and there is a magnifying glass when i click on it, it sounds like an error and i am still not able to see the pics! Does anybody have this problem or just me?

should i just reinstall mountain lion again?

Hi

Open the File Transfer window in Messages (See the Window Menu)

If this lists that some Pics (or files) are stuck (rather than Failed) then open the Applications/Utilities folder and open Activity Monitor.

See if this lists an item about IMfileTransfers and if it does highlight the item then use the Quit option to left.

You may need to restart Messages but people report this allows stalled pics to download.

Hi,

My File Transfer window does not indicate and "Stuck" transfers either And I don't have the active support app either (I now the name is not exact but is close enough for you to find it or not)

If the item being transferred is a File then Messages will add the title of the File to the Balloon as a sort of descriptive text.

Yours is obviously called "Text".

If the Support app is not showing up I have no other suggestions at present (regarding Messages)

You could ask the Buddy to email it to you.

well before it becomes that TEXT thing i can see the pic like a sec.
i looked at the preferences and it shows there the files will be sent to the downloads folder, but there is nothing there. and i havent gotten any pictures since i updated. it's weird before i could see them now i can't.
and what do you mean by support app?

Hi

The actual name is IMTransferAgent

This is a small part of the process and is actually a separate part not held in the app itself.

Messages does things like this in a variety of ways the most common is Plug-ins.

I have tried to capture the Activity Monitor when the process starts up but it seems to be so quick as to only cause the list to jump as it starts up and ends.

It seems you have a different issue to this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4173338?start=45&tstart=0

I would also try a PRAM reset.

Shut down the computer.

Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.

Okay,

let me add my story to this thread too.

Brand spanking MBA, Mountain Lion.......logged into Imessage 1st thing, no prob.

Then, after a few weeks; in the middle of a chat....the name of the other person turned red and my sent messages received a red dot as they were not sent. I checked with the other person.

I couldn`t recieive any messages either, not from any contact.

I logged out, and I couldn`t log in anymore.

I get a yellow triangle saying something like "error while logging in, try again later".

I tried again and again later........

I seeked help on this forum and a user helped me initially.

I re-installed the whole Mountain Lion, a process that I don`t care to repeat too often.

That fixed it for a while, but yesterday the same thing happened.

In the middle of a chat....the red name, the red dots......well, you get the picture.

I tried, to no avail:

# to log in after reseting the PRAM

# boot up and log in whilst in SAVE mode

# to log in after deleting all Imessages and Facetime files in Library/Preferences

# to log in with my wife`s Apple ID, or any ID really.

What did work was logging in with my ID on my wife`s Ipad, no worries.

My account is Yahoo, and don`t seem to be the problem.

Please, any suggestions welcome.

I have urged Apple politley to give us a fix at:

Or...helping a friend get his iMessages on his iMac with ML working and somehow my phone number would not stay selected in preferences on my iMac...it all worked flawless before. I could check it but on quiting and restarting iMessage, it would be unchecked again. So then I thought of disabling account and re-enabling. Crashed iMessage. Rebooted machine. Restarted iMessage and then re-enabled iMessage in preferences. However, now all my names of contacts have been replaced by phone numbers and all the text message windows are blank and are associated with Jabber (Google Talk). I had to manually select each phone number and, with the drop down window by clicking on the phone number in the "To:" area reslect iMessage. Previous text messages don't show up until I send a new message or receive one.

Very weird and something that I don't think should be the norm if you put iMessage into inactive mode and then re-enable it.

HI,

It's not normal.

Is is seen more than it should be.

At present there is not a clear "Fix"

I would try a PRAM reset.

Shut down the computer.

Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
