Existing IMAP notes not available in notes app after mountain lion installation

After today's mountain lion upgrade (from lion) my notes stored on an IMAP server are not available in the new notes app. The folder of the IMAP Account itself is shown but appears empty. On my Iphone all notes of the IMAP Account are shoen correctly as well as on another mac still running lion.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Problem is still existing for third party IMAPs with path prefix after 10.8.1 Upgrade.

See syslog, both typical errors still occurring while trying to add a new note the IMAP server of my University.

23.08.12 21:27:21,003 Notes[602]: folderProxy addNoteToRemote returned false

23.08.12 21:27:07,203 sandboxd[630]: ([629]) mdworker(629) deny file-write-owner/Users/paddy/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes/NotesV1.store data-shm

It is really annoying, how difficult can it be to fix an error, which neither existed on Notes version of iOS (with the same code base) nor on the notes parts of the old mail application.

This is the type of "crappy monopolistic behavior" that will probably make me stop buying Apple products very soon.

Apple introduced iCloud and now is forcing everyone to use it to sync stuff like notes. Was that easy to allow iTunes to do it as well like in the past? Seriously?

Note to guys at Apple: With all the respect (because most of you are just making what have been told to) go f**** yourselfs over.

By a lot of reasons starting with privacy and ending in coporate/government policies it's actually impossible for professional user to use your **** s*** cloud services.

I bet with all of you guys that Apple won't fix this IMAP issue. And yes I tried to set the inbox path and it's still not working... but on my iPhone (iOS 5) it is working and correctly sending the notes to the server...

Have a nice day.

I've emailed some websites but no answers so far.

Sorry about my answer before, but I was overreacting to this, the real issue here are legal concerns. For instance in European countries is actually illegal to store company data in the iCloud since most of the servers are located outside of the countries. Before you say that I also send emails, yes I sent them with company data but using service providers located in my own country.

Apart from the legal issues, nobody would want to depend on Apple and Internet connection to sync some notes, it's just stupid. Private information MUST remain private.

Have a nice day.

This has been bothering me for a while and I have figured it out - at least partially.

The problem is with encrypted passwords in Notes.app in 10.8.x (including 10.8.3). iOS devices do not seem to have this problem.

If you have Mail server setup properly you've probably disabled cleartext passwords (and most of these 3rd party sites do too I'm sure) -- Mail.app connects via SSL easily and has no trouble but Notes.app doesn't seem to want to use an encrypted connection for some stupid reason.

I changed my 10.8.3 server to allow cleartext passwords (and of course blocked the ports at the router firewall) and BOOM all my devices are talking via Notes.app again. Desktop, laptop, iPad & iPhone are in sync. Now this is fine for my desktop and iOS devices but my laptop will now only sync notes when I connect at home, when I'm at work or travelling it will not 😠... at least until Apple fixes this.

The continuation of this stupid flaw for so long had me so pessimistic that I hadn't even thought to check if this latest update fixed it. I have opened my Notes application on my updated MacBook and, while it now shows my two IMAP stored notes, creating a new note in that account from the MacBook doesn't show on my iPhone. The reverse is also true (iPhone made note doesn't show on MacBook). The title bar says "Updating..." but this never clears.

I've closed and reopened both software and tried again. No change.

Essentially, while it has decided to show me notes it wouldn't see before, this apparently is a one time event, and nothing has really changed. I still cannot use this feature. This is not an improvement. Pessimism validated.

Woops, spoke too soon!!

30 minutes later, while fussing with settings, i checked my iCloud preferences (didn't change anything!!) and it suddenly told me there was no networking. Funny, since i was using Safari and Facebook at that moment and my wireless signal was fine. But, after telling it to troubleshoot, it tells me that my configuration changed (no it didn't) and suddenly the new notes appeared at both the Mac Notes app and the iPhone Notes app. Hm. Tested again... and it apparently DOES WORK!

FINALLY!!

Dunno what the problem was in getting synchronized, but it's doing what they say it's supposed to do, at last.

YAY!!

For me, everything worked fine again, after …

  • *REMOVING* in MacOS the "IMAP path prefix" (in the System Pref Pane "Mail, Contacts & Calendar" under "More Options...")
  • *ADDING* the "IMAP path prefix" "INBOX" in iOS (in System Preferences, "Mail, Contacts, Calendar" >"Accounts" > "IMAP Account (account name)" > "Advanced" > "Incoming settings": "IMAP Path Prefix"

I work with MacOS 10.8.5, AppleMail 6.6, Notes 1.5 (107) and iOS 7.0, iPhone Mail (11A465)
