All my notes have vanished

Just updated from Lion to Mountain Lion. All of my notes, across 4 different email accounts, have completely vanished. The Notes app shows the 4 accounts, but all are empty. To make matters curioser, when I go to the accounts section is System Preferences, it does not show the 4 accounts (although they are there in Mail!)

I don't use iCloud to sync notes as that caused massive problems with duplicates when I first activated it back when iOS5 was released.

HELP!

Thanks

same here! had two e-mail-accounts with notes, accounts are set up in the new notes app, butt all notes are missing. i tried to disable and re-enable nites in the accounts system preferences without luck - actually i can't disable notes in the system preferences pane: when i click on the checkmark it disappears and immediately reappears.... IS THIS A BUG?

so the notes are still there on my ipad and iphone - but not in the new notes app in 10.8 although the accounts are setup and the notes app is showing them...

HELP, too!

OK, caveat to the above:

If you follow the steps to delete the com.apple.notes files then you will delete any notes which you have saved on your Mac. This wasn't a problem for me, since I didn't have any and my main issue has always been that it wasn't syncing my notes with my iPhone through my IMAP account.

On my work Mac I had to do the full deleting of the old com.apple.notes files before it would sync. On my home Mac, I didn't have to do anything - it all sync'd perfectly after I had run the 10.8.3 updater.

Go figure!

I think the moral of this whole sorry saga is one for Apple - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

A bit late to chime in, but strangely when I upgraded my iPhone from a 3G to a 4 (well before the above mentioned Mountain Lion update) and added my mail accounts and switched on notes, the notes that went AWOL magically reappeared!

It was a good few months between when I upgraded the OS (losing notes) and upgrading my iPhone (and getting them back again). So they were still persisted somewhere - but just not accessible for some reason.

All my notes have vanished
