Unable to enable Airplay: AppleTV (3 gen) with MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion

Airplay is only available under Mountain Lion on select MAcs since 2011.

Some have had success with the software Airparrot. Not tried it but may do.

I try airparrot now too. Do you get it to work in full screen or is it just a part of it? It doesn't fill the screen for me.

Yea it lags a lot from airparrot but it works fine from iTunes, but it's so enoying that it can't take the most common formats. Got any god program for converting movie files so that it works on iTunes?

Tried the settings but I can't find any settings for change the screen solution on the tv.

Mid 2010 macbook pro's have been excluded from airplay mirroring. I bought an apple tv just for this. Time to send it back I think.

Apple - if you are listening know that you've now got one more ****** off user who bought Mountain Lion specifically for airplay mirroring. Considering AirPlay still works for full screen videos in iTunes, the fact that it doesn't work for the full screen feels very much like a business decision vs. a technology decision. Adding insult to injury, your AppleCare support guys (who are great) were trained to say that the requirements was a Core i5 processor. I have a Core i5 processor, but I guess there is a difference between a Core i5 processor purchased in 2010 vs. one purchased in 2011?

All in all, very disappointing.

Yes when they showed what you need to upgrade to the os x mountain lion they neglected to publize what you needed for airplay. i got apple tv and mountain lion os x specifically to mirror. mid 2010's excluded. hopefully someone will figure out a way to crack it

the "decision" actually is not made by Apple afaik. It's a technological + business decision regarding DRM integrated into 2011 Sandy Bridge CPU's by Intel. That new tech is called Intel Insider (http://blogs.intel.com/technology/2011/01/intel_insider_-_what_is_it_no/), the point there is that streamed content is not easily hacked or snipped by others because of higher encryption.

Eventhough it is possible to AirPlay and Mirror your Screen via AirParrot f.E. it is not a sleek integration due to the heavy workload of the CPU, f.E. the i5 540M with integrated GPU chipset itself is not powerful enough to handle 1080P content without getting hot.

I have a Late 2011 MBP 15" i7 with ML installed. I also have a 3rd gen ATV, which I just installed the 6b software on. When I attempt mirroring the ATV goes black.

If I use iTunes it will display fine, but no mirroring function will work for presentations, desktop, etc.

Any ideas?

Was really looking forward to this feature.
