No wifi connection after installing Mountain Lion HELP!!

So there it is... It appears as though I am connected to the wifi network, but in reality there is no connection and I'm offline. That's the only way I connect to the Internet so I'm kind of screwed. Any ideas on how to fix this? Here's what I've tried so far:

-disconnect and reboot the router

-turn off and on the AirPort

-delete and add the network connection

-restart the computer

Nothing works :-(

I have a late 2011 17" MBP if that makes any difference.

You're absolutely right! Here is what I did to make it work all over again:

1) I determined that connection to VPN is the cause of Wifi not working. - When Disconnected - Wifi worked perfectly fine; when Connected - Wifi appeared to be working, but wasn't connecting to the Internet

2) I went into Network Preferences/Advanced

3) Clicked on the DNS tab

4) Added two new OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220 by pressing the '+' button

FYI - OpenDNS is the DNS service HMA Pro VPN is using automatically. If you're not a HMA VPN user and want to use OpenDNS, you have to sign up for it.

5) I clicked OK and then Apply

6) I connected to VPN and voila - everything works fine. Wifi works also while VPN is disconnected.

In finder press cmd + shift + g a box will pop up.

Enter this exact thing: /library/preferences/systemconfiguration

Now take that systemconfiguration folder and Delete it! It will prompt you to provide your password, delete and empty the trash, now press the button to restart your computer, and it should work again.

When and If you get the download to work you REALLY need to save those downloaded files and make your own ML Install USB thumb drive.

I just used the one I created yesterday with the download from the MAS, after I saved them to another partition and used the newest version of LionDiskMaker (great little program for making the thumb drive), to do another clean install on an external USB 2 HDD and it took all of 30-35 minutes from start to finish.

For all the Dutch users that have a KPN Experiabox router:

1) go to http://192.168.2.254
2) Username: KPN Password: leave empty (You might have changed this yourself)
3) Go to Network (at the top)
4) Go to WLAN (at the left)
5) Set as follows:
Enable WLAN: Enable
Mode: IEEE 802.11g Only
Channel: 7
Transmitting power: 100%
Enable WMM QoS: Disable

This fixed my wifi problems. Good luck
