Multiple Displays Problem - 3rd display shows pointer arrow only

I have a Mac Pro with two Nvidia GeForce GT120 video cards driving three displays. After the upgrade to OS X 10.8, the third display is recognized by the system, but does not show the desktop or any windows... only the pointer arrow is displayed - but the arrow is displayed properly, is mapped properly across all three display spaces, and the system still allows windows to be open (but invisible) on the 3rd display. Is this a general bug or perhaps unique to my configuration?

The release of 10.8.3 is imminent. If it doesn't include the fix, then I'm going to have to downgrade to 10.7.4. The question is whether or not 10.7.4 will work with a GTX670 and a GT120. The latest 305.xx NVIDIA drivers make the problem worse when using portriat displays on ML 10.8.2. I assume they work just fine in Lion.

It seems that tmikaeld is correct. Having multiple video cards is casuing this issue. I removed the GT120 and I now have two monitors working in portriat mode off a single GTX670. This is with the latest NVIDIA driver and OS X 10.8.2. Once I get the HDMI->DVI and DP->DVI adapters, I will test if the 670 can output to 4 monitors in portrait mode.

I updated Mtn Ln to 10.8.3 and it did fix the black screen in portrait mode. However, it also added another problem related to scaled resolution in portrait mode.

If you use "scaled" resolution versus "best for display", the resolution doesn't scale right. Either too short, or too big. Also, the workspace size is larger than the monitor's real size. If you maximize a window, it will be larger than the screen.

Using best for display doesn't produce this problem.

At least it shows they're on the right track. I bet this is an easier fix than the last. Meanwhile, I'll just squint at the fine print on my portrait monitor or adjust it so it's only a few inches from my head.

PROBLEM SOLVED IN 10.8.3

MacPro 4,1

2 NVIDIA GeForce GT 120

30" Apple LCD (no rotation)

23" Apple LCD (270º rotation)

32 GB RAM

1 SSD (boot)

1 RAID-0 (dual-10K HDs, multiple-partitons: scratch, data, windows 8)

1 Backup (2 TB)

Thank you Apple

A friendly gesture of good-faith would be to issue all of us loyal MacPros users (that you put through HE11 for several months) within this forum that have reported these bugs a small gift in the App Store.

this did NOT solve my problem... I responded too soon.

Yes I am able to have 6 monitors in portrait mode with 3 Nvidia Geoforce GT 120 512MB graphics cards but as of yesterday, my whole system shuts down and reboots. This happened 3 times in the span of about an hour.

I removed all but 2 monitors running on only 1 Nvidia Geoforce GT 120 512MB graphic card and the system crashes stopped.

So I am back to either waiting again for some resolution from apple or looking into buying newer graphics cards.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted... a whole day.

Again, I can't get no satisfaction...😟

I've got three GT120s and I'm driving three monitors off the DisplayPort connectors, one to each card, but only two rotated (one 270 degrees, one 90 degrees). Previous to 10.8.3 I could only get one of the rotated displays live. I've had the setup running now with all three monitors for four or five days, no crashes or reboots. Maybe there's something goofy with using the DVI interface on the cards?
