I started downloading videos in *.FLV format then using VLC to convert this file to *.m4v. I need videos from online sites for educational purposes.
Just yesterday, I downloaded a video and converted the file. So far do good. The video kept its high definition and playback via QuickTime was flawless. I'm running a 1st Gen Unibody 2.53 Duo Core MBP and it did take me a bit but she managed to convert this file.

Hey Bill B.3 Your way is the best so far. it's a little tricky to pick up, but the easest. I double clicked on the link that gets highlight, then you can right click and there is the "download source file" that you said would be there. It work great. I tested three times on three videos, works great and it easest by far. Thanks
@jib001
Thank you so much! I sometimes wish to download flv, but more often I am looking to extract an image from within jQuery or Flash shell, and that is what I used the "Activity window" for most often.
The solution you are showing is exactly what I wished for, and is much more efficient than the previous way!

I see a DL button on http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070 but I don't know if it'll work. You can give it a go I suppose. Remember to backup!! 🙂
As always, the best way to talk to Apple engineers, instead of just griping with other users is: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Dear antrozous,
You are right that the menu option is not there. You can use this link to do the same thing:
It looks like in http://support.apple.com/downloads/#internet the powers that be have removed the Safari 5.1.7 for Lion. The only one left up there is for Snow Leopard. Sneaky Rat B*stards!
I share the same opinion. Not only that but the Search Box is gone and so is the
Shift-Command-i
I'm not opposed to upgrades but not at the expense of our tools.
What's happening Apple?
Seems that we must change to Firefox... .
Seek and ye shall find... .
Develop Mode > Show Web Inspector (Alt + + I) and then open in a separate window.
The Web Inspector is NOT the same thing as the Activity Viewer. We want to know where the Activity Viewer is.
I agree with antrozous.....the loss of the activity viewer and not being able to use it to download streaming video makes Safari 6 a downgrade. Back to using Real Player and Chrome.
Good point. I would have not upgraded if I had known they were going to take away the Activity Window.
