Q: Since updating to OS X ML/Safari 6, cannot access websites

Hi!

I updated my Mac last night and have had trouble using Safari since installing.  Any website I go to where a sign in is required is unusable but works just fine in Chrome.  I get an error message saying that Safari cannot create a secure connection to the server.  I am a (fairly) new Mac user, so would probably be able to be more useful to myself in Windows. This is what I've tried so far, to no avail:

Clearing cache

Re-setting Safari

Checked to make sure parental controls weren't switched on in the update

Firewall is on but FTP is passive with no proxies set

There are no recent discussions that I can find with anything more than this suggested.  Would someone please be able to assist me?

Thank you!

/Tristan

I have had the same problem too. Another thread suggested checking Parental Controls which I did but nothing was set. I then tried switching off all extensions and then I could access the websites that were previously erroring out.

So I then switched extensions back on and it's still working.

I'm not sure what I did actually fixed the issue or whether it's just gone away by itself. Anyhow everything is ok now

May be it helped you, but don't help me!!!  I've MacMini Server and when I downloaded Mac OS X 10.8 - at first Client, later Server - Safari doesn't open ANY(!) webaddress and immediately Quit! Chrome and Firefox No Problem!

After the solution seeming to work, I closed Safari for a while.  When I got back from my run, it started doing the same thing again.

Just logged in this morning and the problem is back.

Another thread suggested that you clear the DNS cache, so I've just done that using iTweaX and I can now access my online banking and other secure sites. Try that and see if it works

So far clearing out the DNS cache has worked (temprarily so far). I have iTweaX so cleared it down using that. Surfed around a bit on Safari and had no issues and then re-booted the Mac. Launched Safari and it all seemed to be working ok. All of the secure websites have been accessible

Try clearing out your DNS cache. I won't know for sure if this is a permanent fix until after a day or so of using the Mac.

Good Luck. It seems to be a common problem for a lot of users

Oh well, that fix was short lived. Back to the drawing board.

I have heard that Rapport could be the culprit. If not then Apple seriously need to sort this buggy release out.

Just too bad that Apple Team doesn't read our discussions!!! I was in Apple Service, but they couldn't to do for appr.20 min. anything to start Safari!!! They're good specialists, opened many included hidden folders&files, deleted all extensions, BUT!- NOTHING! My Safari can't open any webpage! Only Quit after 1/2 second! Chrome is doing all what do you want, no problem. May be someone know how to message straight to the Apple Team?

They(Apple Team) can to create the New Version of Safari 6 with fixing all these corruptions, because the present Safari 6 is absolutely broken!!!

I have had nothing but trouble with Safari 6 since upgrading to Mountain Lion.  Same as everyone else, the can't make a secure connection error message.

Firefox and Chrome don't have the issue so it's a Safari problem.

Stopping Rapport appears to resolve the issue for Safari, for me, so there might be an incompatibility between Rapport and Safari 6.

    Sugith --

so there might be an incompatibility between Rapport and Safari 6.

There has been an incompatibility between Rapport and Safari for years.  They keep saying they're adressing it, but ir rarely works on a Mac.

I would bet that almost all the problems with 10.8 are from old apps that are now forgotten. Especially internet "helpers" like AV, seurity, third-party Safari "enhancing" apps, extentions & plugins.

    Really glad you're all sorted.
