Google Talk and OSX Mountain Lion

So I upgraded my MBA and checked out messages.

Had Google Apps Jabber account in iChat in Lion and worked fine.

So far on Mountain Lion the Jabber account constantly logging in and out and also does not display my buddie list at all..

Anyone else having any problem with Jabber / GTalk / Google Apps?

I don't think this is a Google issue...

My PC can get into Gtalk no problem, so can my Blackberry ... and I could access gmail using iChat prior to upgrading my Air to Mountain Lion and getting Messages.

Anyone heard anything from apple about this issue? This is an issue with Messages, and I hope that apple fixes it fast. I am brand new to Apple, and this is not helping the switch 😟

Hi,

Nearly three months later after a solved issue is likely to be a completely different issue.

However I do note you have only just updated to Mountain Lion and Messages.

I would check the name you have for Google in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars.

The email ID s you have tend to get listed hare and some are also Active for Messages.

The Mail App up until Lion kept the Mail Account info separate from the iChat (Now Messages) logins.

The Google mail server allows you to access the server as Username@googlemail.com and Username@gmail.com

The Google talk server is much more fussy (Secure) than that and will only accept the way the account name is spelt on the Google Mail Web Page.

I am suggesting that in Mail you had one name set up and in iChat another but now the Mail one is active for Messages and is not Logging in.

In Messages it is set up as a Google option in Add Account ?

It lists in the Server Settings tab the talk.google.com server ?

HI,

The port should be 5223 when SSL is.

However it will accept a login on port 443.

In the Account Info tab Untick the "Enable this Account" box

No go to server setting and change the Port.

Re-enable the Account.

Does it log in now ?

Hi,

In the Finder > Go menu > Go to Folder Copy and Paste ~/Library/Preferences into the dialogue box that appears.

In the Preferences find com.apple.ichat.Jabber.plist and Drag it to the Trash

Restart Messages.

Yes the Messages app still uses iChat .plists and it also will be recreated afresh when you restart the app.

Due to the time there may be a delay between now and my next response.

Hi,

In that case remove the com.apple.imagent.plist

This is one for a background app that "Listens" for the Messages accounts and the FaceTime app for Off Line IMs and Calls.

It will then cause the App(s) to start up if someone calls you.

The App (IMAgent) starts up when the computer does. You may have to use the Activity Monitor to end it or restart the computer after removing the .plist

I completely forgot about responding, but I did like you said and I'm still unable to connect. I hope someone at apple HQ sees this thread, not being able to use the IM software that ships with the OS is a little ridiculous. In fact, I had no problems connecting to google talk or any other IM provider on OS X Lion or previous versions of Mac OS going back to snow leopard, which was installed on my unibody polycarbonate macbook when I purchased it.

HI,

I also have another thread now where someone is having issues logging in the GoogleTalk

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4461480

In the Messages Preferences have you tried deleting the account then re-adding it ?
