Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

ML: Printers no longer auto-quit (i. e. "stuck" in the dock)

After printing in Lion, the printer icons (representing the print spoolers or queues) in the dock could be set to "auto-quit" so they disappeared after finishing their (print) jobs.

With Mountain Lion however, this "auto-quit" feature seams to have disappeared. Thus, the printer icons remain "stuck" as active programs in the dock.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Any help on the horizon?

Following this and have initiated my own post: My Canon MP640 (May 2010) won't autoquit - but it did in SL and LION. If not a ML "thing" it is certainly connected to changes imparted by ML - I can reboot my MPB-13" (mid-2010) from SuperDuper! bootable SL or LION external HD's I've saved and NOT have this issue.

Thanks for any updates – I'll be following both posts.

It looks more like a Launch Services problem now. When this is happening, please press <control>, <option>, <command>, <shift> and the "." (period) the all five keys together, you should get a Finder window popup after a couple minutes, with a file highlighted whose name starts with "sysdiagnose". If you can post that file somewhere for access and note it here, you should get better chance receive a useful help.

Here is the feedback from Jon at stclairsoft - producers of Default Folder:

Apple has included a scripting definition file (a ".sdef" file) in PrinterProxy that has an error in it. When Default Folder X is running, it asks the system to load AppleScript additions - that causes OS X to look at the sdef file - that causes an exception, and then PrinterProxy ceases to work correctly. Basically, it's Apple's bug. Fortunately, I don't think PrinterProxy ever uses an Open or Save dialog, so I should be able to just add it as an exception to Default Folder X.

I'll have a fix out shortly.

Ken,

I got the eMail concerning 4.5b1 (14495) version on 24 August 2012 - and that was new to me and worked to solve this "Printer Proxy staying open" issue. So that's the latest I have and it is working for me with Mountain Lion. I believe a full update will be coming soon – maybe after Mac OS 10.8.2??
