ML: Printers no longer auto-quit (i. e. "stuck" in the dock)

After printing in Lion, the printer icons (representing the print spoolers or queues) in the dock could be set to "auto-quit" so they disappeared after finishing their (print) jobs.

With Mountain Lion however, this "auto-quit" feature seams to have disappeared. Thus, the printer icons remain "stuck" as active programs in the dock.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Any help on the horizon?

Ken,

I have 4.5b1 -- it seems to be working. Did they say anything about a permanent "version 4.5" to be issued soon?

No rush -- thanks. (Not sure if I should install 4.5b3 but will continue with my 4.5b1 for now as it seems to be working).

Sure have a lot of other problems with Mountain Lion: Disappearing cursor in Apple Mail, can't get F9, F10 and F11 to activate after my Mac is open a few hours; fuzzy icons; disordered windows in icon view (changes size and order without me changing them!) and more…

Any comments appreciated.

Ken,

I would REALLY appreciate having you start a thread with your issues-- and a list of the key software/shareware/freeware that "may" be causing the problem. (Although if it is software, then why never a problem with Leopard, SL, Lion…)??

My post is here, but it is not getting much response:

Also what hardware you have - i.e. a core duo 2 like mine or an i5 or i7??

Thanks!

Ken - This is off message for this discussion, but wanted you to get this:

I THINK I FOUND THE CAUSE of the missing cursor issue:

When I am typing a message in Apple Mail, then I go to another program (can be anything - Safari, TextEdit, Contacts - doesn't matter) -- if I then choose "Hide Others" (i.e. hide other programs so only the one to which I've just gone is visible) then when I go BACK TO MAIL - the cursor is gone.

This happened all the time for me since I use DragThing with the preference to "Hide all applications when switching to a new application". So each time the "Hide Others" command was given. By not using that preference in DragThing - my cursor is always there when I go back to Mail.

BUT if I choose "Hide Others" while in the other program, when I go back - cursor hidden. (and I have to touch another message in Mail to reactivate the cursor).

Hope this helps but it demonstrates the cause, but not how to fully correct it.

Comments welcome - but best to comment in my other post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4287467?answerId=19617153022#19617153022

Best regards,

sorry to resurrect a somewhat old thread, but i recently started seeing this same issue. archive utility and flashmount in particular are not auto-quitting for me anymore.

i do not have default folder x installed (and never have). i do have dropbox, but i disabled it and rebooted and the problem persisted.

can anyone shed any more light on what the nature of the issue is that causes this symptom? something to do with LaunchServices?

Does anyone know if the terminal script works with the HP auto quit and Dropbox installed?
