How to buy snow leopard currently?

Hi,

i wanted to update an old leopard mac (which is supported) to mountain lion now that it is out.

Turns out snow leopard cant be bought in the mac store anymore and telephone support says it should be bought at retail sellers.

However i phoned three retailers and none have them in stock anymore.

Is there still a way to buy a Snow Leopard Licence directly or buy a full licence for Montain Lion from Apple?

I've just bought from AppleUK telesales using the 0800 048 0408 number on the webpage. £14 + £4 something for postage - delivery early November tho'!

Thanx for the info and help

Firefox alerted me to the impending pulling away of the support plank saying they could no longer update/upgrade beyond v16 as Apple had pulled support on Leopard.

Cheers

Hi - I phoned the Apple UK Free Phone number 0800 0480408 I found here http://www.saynoto0870.com/companysearch.php and got through straight away.

Spoke to a woman who sounded American. She said there have been loads of calls in the last couple of weeks from people wanting to upgrade from Leopard and she was very clued-up.

Told me my MacBook Pro can only go up to Lion but she couldn't explain to me why it could not go higher - I asked if there was anything I could do to upgrade the hardware but she didn't seem to have been asked that one before.

I had better look for a more appropriate thread to ask about getting "stuck" at Lion.

From what I've read here and elsewhere the best way is to get to Snow Leopard and test the options from there. There seem to have been some retrograde things with Lion and it seems possible to skip over it for Mountain Lion. I'm willing to be corrected about that - mybe your researches throw up more accurate info.

Good luck

My daughter had her school mid 2007 17" Macbook Pro that we have upgraded to current. The Apple Mountain Lion upgrade site tells you which PCs can be upgraded to Mountain Lion.

We were previously on Leopard. We bought Snow Leopard by calling Apple for $28 including 2 day shipping. When I called, the person did confirm that it could be updated to Mountain Lion.

Once Snow Leopard was installed, you need to do 'Software Update' it to get the last Snow Leopard update. That will give you the 'App Store' icon and from there, you can order and install Mountain Lion (skipping Lion) for $19 online.

We did a backup, but everything went smoothly, nothing needed to be restored.

THANK YOU for this info! I'd looked all over Apple's website and didn't find this until I googled how to upgrade to Snow Leopard. And, since my computer is 4 years old and no longer under AppleCare, when I tried to go through the support page, they were going to charge me $19.99 plus tax for a SUPPORT CALL!??!

BUT, thanks to this thread, I just called 1-800-MY-APPLE, and in less than 5 minutes was able to purchase Snow Leopard for $19.99. $4 for 5-day shipping, $6 for 2-day. SWEET! The sales rep was very helpful.

Thank you, thank you!

This helped me. I tried everything. I have a Macbook that I've had for 6 years and love it! I recently upgraded from iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 5 and was extreemly disheartened to discover that to sync my phone to my computer I had to install iTunes 10.7. I tried to install it and lo and behold, my computer tells me that itunes 10.7 is not supported on leopard. After searching high and low for snow leopard on-line I finally found this thread and called apple. Took 5 minutes to order. The rep said that I would have to upgrade my RAM in order to install Lion and that I would probably be stuck there until I upgraded hardware. I feel like apple is trying to force us to buy new products. I love my macbook and when the time is right I will get a new one. Am I the only person who feels that if I spend $1000 plus on a laptop then it should last a while. Mine has, so now I'm being upgraded out of usefullness. I evangilize for apple to my friends and co-workers. Can I really do that now? Wish apple would realize that making their new products backwards compatible with their new ones is a good idea.

Found this informative thread. Just FYI it - at least for now Dec. 2012 - is available right from the Apple store website at

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

I just got it. Same $19.99. Free shipping. And yes it's 10.6.3.

Also found it by searching for "snow leopard" at the UK (£14) and Australia stores (A$ 20.99). So it may be everywhere.
