Hi,
i wanted to update an old leopard mac (which is supported) to mountain lion now that it is out.
Turns out snow leopard cant be bought in the mac store anymore and telephone support says it should be bought at retail sellers.
However i phoned three retailers and none have them in stock anymore.
Is there still a way to buy a Snow Leopard Licence directly or buy a full licence for Montain Lion from Apple?
Amazon.com is one source for buying Snow Leopard. While your at it, you will need to purchase a copy of Lion as well, since you cannot make the jump from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion without it. I would go to an Apple retail store to confirm the upgrade path to Mountain I've outline here is accurate.
You don't need to have Lion to upgrade to Mountain Lion. You can do it from Snow Leopard.

You can buy Snow Leopard by calling the Apple Store at 1-800-MY-APPLE. I just called and ordered a copy for $29 + tax. Ships within a week for free or you can pay more to have two day delivery. Hope this helps.

I ordered one through telephone sales support in germany (without shipping costs even) after tech support told me they dont sell them anymore at apple. Telephone sales support told me that the first day they were confused too but its now sorted out as you can order at the hotline directly.
Upgrading from 10.4.11, due to imminent lapse in o/s support from Endicia software. Decided to update my 10.5.(?) laptop at the same time. Just ordered today via apple phone # listed above. The good news: I got the family pack for $29.99 instead of the $49.99, seems the price just changed yesterday! The sales rep was as surprised as me. Talk about coincidences. So if you're thinking of upgrading several machines to Snow Leopard, today is a good day, while it's still available.
For the record, the price at 1800MYAPPLE is now down to $19.99. Just ordered a new copy today. Free shipping to get in a week. If it's anything like Amazon's 5-8 day free shipping it will still get here in just a couple of days.
I just called 1-800-MY-APPLE and was told they no longer sell Snow Leopard, even after I mentioned having foudn this thread.
Ian suggested I call Amazon or Macmall instead.
FYI I am in Canada but I don't think that matters.
Hmmm Macmall no longer seems to sell it either and Amazon wants $125 for something that used to sell for $29!!!
Looks like its a question of being robbed by Amazon or robbing Apple by pirating the software. Talk about a rock and a hard place. :/

Yes, call back. (I'm a Mac consultant so the comment that they don't sell it freaked me out).. they still sell it, i JUST got off the phone with them. Call, ask for sales, if they say they don't sell it, tell them that they do again (some of them have old info is what I was told.)
Regardless, it's still on sale, and it's still $19.99. Go get it.

I called back and asked for the sales department and explained the back and forth I've been going through between the forums and 1-800MYAPPLE.
The rep was much more helpful and had to "search the store", something the previous rep did not take the time to do while I was on the phone. So you guys are right, they seem to have old info. The rep also confirmed to me that 1-800-MYAPPLE was now the only place you can buy Snow Leopard.
Another interesting tidbit (to me): She confirmed to me that they cover both US and Canada so I wont have to wonder about that anymore.
No telling how long it will be available for so get em while theyre hot. 🙂

Apple said that customers can still purchase a copy of Snow Leopard or Lion from its online store's telesales agents: 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775. For Lion you'll get a redemptions code via e-mail and need to DL from the Mac Apple Store (requires SL 10.6.6+).
