I have been spending way too much time with the white screen issue. Client and i on the phone with Apple, repaired permissions, restored remote destktop, changed monitor resolution, Everything! Nothing worked. Then, I read lhotka'spost about unplugging the external monitor & it worked!!! Thank you! I just have to test with my client.

Update for you all..

Sofware update from Apple - no fix on this issue.

We changed our resolutions to match and it did work but was basically unusable going from my parents big iMac to my Macbook pro.

Last resort, deleted the files in the Library and replaced and it worked a treat.

Thank you for all of your help everyone - even though this should not even BE an issue....!

Have a great day!

Well thank God for Apple Discussions. Just wanted to throw my two cents in. I had the very same problem as some of the first posters:

1) I am on Mountain Lion

2) My Dad is on Lion

3) Various computers at my house all with the same result when trying to take over/screen share my dad's computer: white screen. I could see the mouse, etc. etc. Basically the same as everyone else.

I tried the screen settings suggestions. He has a macbook and I tried changing Macbook Air, Pro and iMac screen settings. But I continued to have the same white screen.

Today, I went back to a late June Time Machine backup and restored the System -> Library -> Core Services -> Remote Management folder (4 files). that the 3.6 Remote Management update (already discussed in this thread) replaced.

And presto it worked.Thank Goodness, because my dad... well suffice it to say screensharing is a necessary thing.

Does anyone know what the 3.6 Remote Management update fixed and what we lose by not having it? That would be good to know.

Thank you EVERYONE.

(btw. Was at the genius bar today for another issue entirely and ran this by the guy I was working with. He said all I needed to do was load iChat on to my computer. I thought: AWESOME that would be so EASY. Too bad it didn't work. Duh. Why would he suggest that?)

Hi all in this very long topic. I am experiencing the same problem also exept with something odd. I am chatting with three colleagues in the northern part of the country. Three 27" IMacs running on Lion while I am running a Mac Pro + Mountain Lion with a 21" Eizo screen. One of the Imacs shares with the dreadful white screen, the others do not. Changing the resolution of the "white one" to 1200 x 1600 shows up the desktop of the 27" Imac, but you can understand that an owner of a 27" IMac is not happy with my square resolution.. So no work around in this case... Any other suggestions? Or do we wait for the fix from Apple?

Kind regards, Julius

The Guys and Gals at the Genius Bars tend to know more about the more popular items of Apple Software.

Pages, iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband, Keynote, Address Book/Contact, Mail and so on. iChat on earlier version of the OS and Messages come well down the list.

Of the Geniuses that have contacted me from Stores to get help, few seem to be aware that each version of the OS has it's own iChat version with Mountiain Lion having Messages and that they are not transferable is any way.

They don't know any better.

Also Apple Reemote Desktop 3.6.1 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1594

This particular update is after the Start date of this thread and may be of some use.

On the other hand it may be the version that changes the Black view some people had to the White one currently seen
