Time remaining on Mountain Lion battery
On Mountain Lion, is there a way to have the menu bar show the time remaining as Lion used to? All it shows now is a battery percentage.

Whilst I agree and also want the option for time back I can see why Apple may have done this.
There is now a commonality with iPhone and iPad. I don't crave the instant ability to see time remaining requirement on my iPhone or iPad where I have got used to only having a percentage indicator and allowing my brain to naturally convert this to how much usage I have left (I know you can get apps to do this, but although I have one, I have rarely used it, besides the ML does show this if you click on the %). Although I agree it’s useful when you put the MBA under load (watch film) you can see how the time remaining changes. However, I could see over time my brain accepting and getting used to the % indication.
While you may not have the use for this functionality, your opinion against it is not the purpose of this post. As you can see by the responses on this question, people obviously relied on this functionality and would like this reimplemented.
I would imagine the issue is probably due to the number of people who look at the time remaining and feel it does not represent what they should be getting. That has been the basis for quite a few posts in the past. People would also often want to know why the time fluctuates significantly now and then. The percentage shows the actual percentage of remaining charge. Time remaining is only an estimate based on how the system is being used at any given time. As a result, it's almost never accurate on any computer. Having said that, computers have had this for years so I don't see why they felt a need to actually remove it. A simple explanation of how it works would have been good enough. It may also just be one of those little quirks that didn't come up in testing. It may not have been intentionally removed.
Totally agree!! Changes to battery icon disappointing.
My mistake, I thought this was a discussion forum...not just an agreement forum.
They really need to fix this! So annoying.
The problem with only showing % is it gives no indication of how quickly you're currently using the battery. If I suddenly notice I've only got an hour left when I'd previously had 4 I know something's using more power than it should and if needs be I can kill some applications.
Totally agree! I cannod figure out who could decide to leave this out...
Instead, I have installed SlimBatteryMonitor (http://www.orange-carb.org/SBM/downloads.html), however its implementation is not as elegant nad celar as the original was.
Please, Apple engineers, give us the feature back!
Thx
This is a user to user support forum. While some Apple employees may read posts here from time to time, it is not in any official capacity. You should submit feedback via Apple's official feedback page:
Thanks tonjik SlimBatteryMonitor will do for now!

Agree. This feature loss, plus the loss of coloured icons in the side bar, is extremely annoying and I'd like to see the old functionality returned. These are some annoying GUI discisions that affect work flow. I don't like it.
I just downloaded SlimBatteryMonitor to bring back the "time remaining" option:

works great, now I've disabled Apple's own battery silliness...
Awesome, works like a charm. Thanks for the suggestion
@ Nate Harrison - Thanks for the Link Works a Treat all Happy now 🙂
