I downgraded back to Skype version 5.8 and it seems to be working fine now. Mine first started to crash whenever I clicked on the Skype Contracts tab, at first it would let me scroll up to the top and then crash. Tried all the solutions in this thread and nothing seem to work except downgrading to a earlier version. I tried disabling Facebook and Mac Contacts from showing up and still crashed. Maybe it's a bug with version 6.0?
I got around to re-installing my iMac. Fresh install from a 10.8.2 install image. Latest version of Skype re-installed, has been perfectly fine since (about 1-2 weeks).
Not much help in terms of specifics but thought I'd let you know anyway.
I had the same problem. It is due to thrid party extensions' duplicate fonts. Go to Font Book and select all fonts, then go to "validate." Check the fonts with issues, and remove any duplicate fonts that you find.
Should do it for you.
the cause for me was a third party extension called call recorder.
The "new" version of Skype has caused countless problems for users, plus the GUI is complicated, cumbersome, and takes up way too much space for what it does. Many users find that 2.8.x version of Skype is more stable and does the job with a far simpler and more intuitive interface. You might want to try downloading that and see if it works better for you.
Yes it is 🙂. I reemove call recorder and skype start working.
For what ever reason, skype needed to be updated before that application was updated. There is an update on the Ecamm web site.
How can I reemove call recorder?? It doesn`t appear like an app
try downloading the latest version of the software. If you need to uninstall it you can run the installer for call recorder. http://www.ecamm.com/mac/callrecorder/faq.html .
Thanks, that was the problem
Thanks, that worked for me, after I did the uninstall of call recorder. Skype works again. I had to download the recorder again, open it and it gave me the option to uninstall.
Had the same issue and had been driving me crazy, had to revert to earlier version of Skype and wipe anything newer and disable update.
Just now found a link that asked if I was running CALL RECORDER. Had downloaded a trial version but never bought the full one. Uninstalled CALL RECORDER and Skype now works properly on all versions !!! YAY !
The problem is with Adobe's fonts. Go to the Font Book app (find it in Spotlight), then select all the fonts, and then in Font Book for to: Edit, and in the dropdown pick "Look for Enabled Duplicates." Once you find them, delte one by one the duplicates.
Then restart your computer!
