Major UI Lag in Logic Pro 9.1.7 on OS 10.8?

Hi,

I've just completed my first session in Logic 9.1.7 on a Mac Pro Quad Xeon 2.6 after upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8. I got through it, but experienced the following new bug (as compared to running in Lion 10.7.4:

I noticed that if Logic is currently playing when I double click on a plugin in the channel strip, and then try to stop the playback (keyboard or by clicking the transport in the arrange window), I will get from a 5-45 second lag before the app responds and actually stops. No mouse or keyboard commands seem to work while it's hanging up.

Workaround: Only open plugin windows when playback is stopped, and then playing and stopping works fine (although maybe a little more laggy than in the former OS still).

Is anyone else experiencing this or have any better workaround ideas?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7), Quad 2.66GHz, 16GB, 18TB HD / RAID

You're welcome. I have to reiterate, the dude I've been speaking to has really turned my head around about Apple and Logic Pro. I was truly on the edge of quitting both.

If there's one thing this makes obvious..... it's that COMMUNICATION is a very good thing and it would be in Apple's best interest to start communicating with it's Pro Apps users. "Pro" is not just a name you tack on a piece of software, it also involves two-way communication with your more serious "Customers".

If you speak with your Apple contact again you might mention that very important fact!

Totally agree with you, Pancenter. And believe me, I did have a very long chat with him about it and posed that question. He said there are people who's job it is to read the forums. He agreed that something is lacking. That said, this bug was a really difficult one because it is not easily recreated. Even for me, some days I have ZERO problems with Logic Pro. Other days the derned lag issue arrives and stays all frigging day! Not making excuses for them. Something like this should not be in existence.

You first point is vaild and unfortunately impossible to get around. Your second point is a question of priorites. I personally much prefer a fully functional Logic Pro install to the latest version of iPhoto, and actually there a a few softwares out ther that I cannot run on my post-SL installs that I can run on Pre-Lion Macs, like Paragon NTFS.

Hi. I may have missed something. I am not dual-booting. The problem seems to be related to adjusting plug-ins when a session is playing. Can you please let me know what solution worked for you? Sometimes doesn't pose a problem, and it's recent to last few months. I find myself sitting waiting for my last "space bar" to stop playback, even a click on the transport. Thanks.

for me, it's mainly when I try to edit plug-ins. On some rare occasions, it just doesn't stop during play-back either. One solution I find myself doing now is to use a MIDI controller to stop the playback instead of pressing spacebar, a bit more cumbersome since I've to reach away from the keyboard to press "Stop".

When editing plug-ins, I find that I can't do live changes too sometimes and have to stop, edit and try again.
