Major UI Lag in Logic Pro 9.1.7 on OS 10.8?

Hi,

I've just completed my first session in Logic 9.1.7 on a Mac Pro Quad Xeon 2.6 after upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8. I got through it, but experienced the following new bug (as compared to running in Lion 10.7.4:

I noticed that if Logic is currently playing when I double click on a plugin in the channel strip, and then try to stop the playback (keyboard or by clicking the transport in the arrange window), I will get from a 5-45 second lag before the app responds and actually stops. No mouse or keyboard commands seem to work while it's hanging up.

Workaround: Only open plugin windows when playback is stopped, and then playing and stopping works fine (although maybe a little more laggy than in the former OS still).

Is anyone else experiencing this or have any better workaround ideas?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7), Quad 2.66GHz, 16GB, 18TB HD / RAID

I agree, Nusskappe. And also, I'm learning to use DP, because I do think it's important to have another app to fall back on. There have been so many years of bugs sitting in Logic now, it's been extremely damaging to my opinion of the way Apple is treating this app and it's users. That said, I've had some contact with the Logic Pro team that fills me with optimism. As well, I'm not sure how much of the problems I've been having with Logic Pro have only to do with problems with Mountain Lion, so it's a really difficult situation. No way I'm moving to PC.

In defense of PC's... If you educate yourself (speaking generally, not to any one person) a little bit, and build a PC yourself, Windows 7 is a fine, highly efficient operating system, I have a single processor Mac Pro and a custom built PC and they are equally stable, the PC has far more grunt with the only basic difference between the two computers being the operating system. The PC is my studio workhorse the Mac is for me and my dabblings.

If you buy a consumer PC off the shelf, you are asking for trouble, some will work but you have to know what to purchase.

Besides.. a Mac is a PC, nowdays, so in one sense, you've already moved! 😉

I got some bad news this morning from my connection at Apple. First of all, the Mountain Lion update has been delayed for some reason, he assumes they've discovered some bug. Second of all, apparently some plugins will still cause lagginess. We shall see of course, and it's best not to panic until the sofware update, but... egads. There really shouldn't be a limit to which plugins we use. No plugin if it's native to the app, or from a reputable 3rd party should cause lag, imo.

Another disappointment is that a thread seems to have been deleted in which we have all be communicating about this issue. When I try to access "Logic 9's UI extremely laggy - any fixes?" it tells me "It appears you're not allowed to view what you requested. You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake." I did a search in the forums and no such thread shows up anymore. Whhaaaa??

Thanks for keeping everyone in the loop Fredo.

Approaching the upside of the two year mark with the onset of this "issue" and lack of importance to "fix". All things said and done, that tells me everything I need to know about Apple/Logic Pro's slow but premeditated departure from the realm of pro audio anything. Really sad. Logic Pro was an absolutely incredible DAW on many levels at one point in history.

No.. I don't believe that is the case Fredo.. It's more likely an issue with the forum and your Browser's Cache/Cookies... I've had this issue before with other threads... Sometimes simply quitting and restarting your browser fixes it.. other times, clearing the cache and resetting cookies does the trick.. It's an issue with the forum software itself i believe.
