If your Wi-Fi is capable of generating a 5 GHz signal, try that.

Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time.

Reset NVRAM/PRAM

I recently replaced a USB wired mouse with a bluetooth mouse on my iMac. I suspect the USB port on the iMac has started to misbehave - but not worth replacing or repairing the iMac (waiting for a new model later in 2017). The BT mouse (an HP model) is working well.

btw - I tried NVRAM reset without success - it seems to be a hardware problem

My mouse cursor is also disappearing and its only started happening since I did a clean install of Mountain Lion. I use the zoom feature a lot (as found in Accessibility) and I noticed my cursor disappears if I then use Mission Control to go from one screen to another and then zoom inwards, sometimes my cursor just disappears.

I also know a few people have mentioned a connection between the cursor disappearing and using Flash, I think I've also had my cursor disappear when I've had my browser open too, from reading around others have had issues when using Photoshop.

I hope Apple can fix this soon.

I've been having this problem primarily with Photoshop. I'm able to switch to Finder and it will reappear. Switching back to Photoshop doesn't necessarily mean that I'll still be able to see the cursor. It's kind of a crap-shoot whether it will still be visible. It's seriously impacting my productivity.

I am experiencing this exact problem while using a wacom intuos5 tablet in Photoshop cs5.5

This has happened to me too, I did a clean install of Mountain Lion. I'm also a heavy user of the Zoom accessibility feature and now it is disappearing every now and then. This is feeling like a havit on every new OS X release that Accessibility feature always takes a hit on bugs. I think for Lion there was also a bug wherein you cannot disable the 'Zoom follows keyboard focus' option even though it's unchecked. It got fixed after a few 10.7 updates and now we have another for Mountain Lion 😟 . Aside from the disappearing mouse cursor, there seems to be a centering issue with the mouse pointer, I now often experience some trouble clicking on a target when zoomed in only to hit on whats beside it on the left.

I hope Apple releases a fix for this soon, one of the primary reasons I'm on a Mac is it's Accessibility features and now it's always comes on buggy.

Well I'm glad its not just me having these issues, thanks for the reply back dwin_ph, yet again Apple have released an OS without proper testing of the Accessibility features, the thing is these kinds of problems aren't hard to detect, anyone who uses the zoom feature in OSX for more than a few minutes will quickly hit these issues, so how on earth do they get through beta testing ????

The thing is I've been using OSX since the days of Tiger whereby there were issues on certain screens where zoom simply got locked and wouldn't work, this issue was still there in Leopard whereby you'd enter time machine (window flying througjh space screen) and yet again the zoom failed to work, that's quite an obvious flaw in the operating system and yet said flaw managed to carry through as far as Lion, whereby there were certain areas of the OS I simply couldn't zoom (Launch Pad, Time Machine, the login screen, Mission Control etc etc) the list goes on.

So imagine how thrilled I was when "finally" after sending dozens of bug reports to Apple's feedback section someone there actually listened and enabled zoon in Time Machine, Launch Pad, Mission Control etc and then for it all to fall flat on its face because now the mouse pointer disappears at will, especally when moving from screen to screen in Mission Control; again I cant help but feel ten minutes of someone who actually uses the zoom feature during beta testing would have picked this up in no time.

The thing is I love OSX, I was an instant convert, not least of which because the zoom feature was just so superior to that of Windows. I just wish that once and for all they'd fix it and get it right, as someone who's partially sighted there is nothing more frustrating than being denied access to a certain feature or part of the OS than finding out the zoom feature (the only thing that allows me to keep using a Mac) simply doesn't work.

Please Apple, sort this out and fix it once and for all. And if you need me to come work as a software tester to get all these issues ironed out then give me a call :-)

could be Photoshop or a driver for the wacom needing an update. Especially if you aren't seeing it in other problems as much if at all or outside of using the wacom.

And when it turns out that its something not part of the OS, like using an old version of Photoshop will you apologize to Apple for assuming they are lazy etc.

so often I see folks quick to yell about not testing enough etc when in the end it is something from one of the billions of possible scenarios that they can't check or nothing would ever get released. Like someone using a computer with just barely enough ram, using way old software they never bothered to update with the various patches etc, a 3rd party accessory that hasn't had the driver updated by the company etc.

You know what, PJ? Save your righteous indignation for when you actually have the problem being discussed. I'm using the latest version of Adobe Photoshop. Macs were noted for their graphics capabilities from the first MacPlus. If you can't get the premier graphics app to work on the premier platform for graphics, something's wrong.

In addition, folks were talking about problems with Zoom which is strictly as system issue.

You can be as angry as you want in real life (I don't care because I don't know you) but this is not the place for your ranting. Your comment was simply the attempted start of a flame war. Having chastened you, I will no longer participate in your game. Please be quiet.

I have Lion and MtnLion next to each other on separate machines (iMac, MacPro). Plug the USB hub into MtnLion, mouse goes bizarre. Unplug, back to normal. No problem on Lion.

My mouse woes continue still further, this morning I had it where my mouse cursor was off target, i.e.e I could see the cursor but the cursor onscreen wasn't in the place I was clicking, the cursor was in actual fact about 1cm to the right of the target area........Just unbelivablly annoying. Come back Lion, all's forgiven !.

I'm using Mountain Lion and the mouse pointer just disappeared while browsing in Safari normally on my MBP. As I moved my finger on the trackpad, I could see elements being highlighted, but the pointer itself was missing. I, too, use zoom often. After 2 min or so of playing around, it came back on its own.

Mine is disappearing randomly and especially after the screen saver comes up and doesn't reappear until I restart. I haven't used Photoshop since updating to Mountain Lion so I'm pretty sure that isn't the issue. So unless this issue has magically appeared across every other program I use at the same time, seems pretty clear cut that it has to do with Mountain Lion.
