Mouse cursor disappears.

Thanks for getting through to them. I look everyday, hoping there is an update from Apple that will fix the problem.

Most of my projects require Photoshop at some point, the dissapearing cursor is a huge waste of time and productivity. I wish I never upgraded from 10.6!! (currently running 10.8.3)

I feel your pain. I'm in Photoshop about 30 hours every week. Command/tabbing to get the cursor back is now an automatic response for me. I still have a clone of 10.6 if I get desperate, but I need 10.8 for other things. So, at this point I'm stuck. I was checking for 10.8.3 every day and what a let down when I installed it and found this issue was not fixed.

Disappearing cursor has made me crazy. Today I found this thread:

Steve there proposed this:

"Try resetting the preferences file.

It cures a lot of strange behavior in PS.

Start Photoshop and immediately hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows)

or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS X).

Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

I tried it and so far cursor has not disappeared!

Only problem is that I lost all the changes in the preferences I had made, but I am happy to rechange them if this really helps.

This solve only temporally the problem, I'm sure that after some week you should have the same problem.

For me, the cursor disappears only with PSCS6 and Corel Painter 12. I think that it might vanish for a second or so, with other apps, but maybe I'm just "missplacing" the cursor using 2 large monitors. It comes right back.

I think that it started happening after 10.6. Or, maybe since the 5870?

So, maybe it's really an Apple thing.

I use the (Cmd-Tab)-(Cmd-Tab) swap as a inevitable fact of getting things done!!!

Interesting Janbe, deleting some of my preferences files seemed to help a lot.

Turns out at one point I had installed a demo version of the CS3 suite on a previous computer but migrated my account to my new laptop and of course all of my preference files came with it even though I've never had CS3 installed on this laptop.

Since I don't use CS3 on this computer I simply deleted all of the adobe CS3 preference files, there were about 20. Some for Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, Reader, and a few others.

All of a sudden, my mouse cursor is back and has been sticking around. It may disappear in the next few weeks, but since I don't use CS3 those preference files won't be recreated so at least for me it might not be an issue any longer. Here's hoping anyways.

Not sure if this will be a permamnent solution as I was not dealing with the issue in Photoshop but with itunes. I prevented the curser from dissappearing by disabling the control + scroll zoom feature in the accessibility tab of system preferences. Of course if this is a feature you use often then it may not help. Hopefully this will be a permanent fix.

Thanks, but no help. I have two mouse problems. 1: the mouse disconnects and I have to get it discovered via System Preferences. This happens avery two days; and 2: The cursor in text programs and in Safari moves but will not do anything, the contents of the page moves a few mm to the right and sometimes stays there until I press Escape, sometimes it returns to normality after a few sec. Sometimes, as I type away as I concentrate on the keyboard, the missing text appears in Spotlight. This happens avery two hours.

I must have tried over a dozen fixes mentioned in this group but none work. I find it difficult to do serious work with this iMac (2011). 5 visits to the Genius Bar solved nothing. I am thinking of changing to Windows: not nice but they are more reliable than this box of junk. It wouldn't be so bad if Apple were addressing this 2-year old problem involving three Op. Systems, but they have been told many times via Feedback and not a cheep. Apple seem to be in a little commercial trouble at the moment. Lets hope it escalates to make them think more about the quality of their products and be less arrogant. After 18 years of Apple I will never buy another of their products.

@SteveKir It sounds like you are experiencing a different problem than all most of the rest of us. The fact that your mouse disconnects and must be rediscovered every few days seems to indicate that you are using a bluetooth mouse. Have you tried a wired mouse? Do you still have the same problem with a wired mouse?

Yes, and the wired mouse does not go AWOL, nor do the contents of windows scroll wildly, nor do desktops change randomly. I have ditched the magic mouse for my old wired mouse, fresaking Apple's ever-so-elegant rodent which is incontinent. What a relief!

Apple has been trying all sorts of random things with mice in recent years and while interesting and useful at first glance, actual usefulness is a bit lacking. I had a Magic Mouse and stopped using it because it just wasn't comfortable. I also had the Magic Mouse with the round ball on top which while a little bit better wasn't really very good either. Couple that with Bluetooth's technological limitations which hinder accuracy and responsiveness which are rather important in a mouse and I'll stick to the trackpads for most work and wired mice if I'm in the mood to design something.

But I digress, this has little to do with the actual topic of the thread which is the mouse cursor disappearing issue which unfortunately even after deleting my preference files seems to have reemerged.

It happen to me the first time today. The problem was associated with Adobe Air, I just restarted safari and everything got back to normal. Hope it Helps

Correction to my post. The wired mouse, like the dopey Magic Mouse, sometimes diverts characters as I type them, to Spotlight's search window!! How crazy is that? However, the other crazy behaviours seem to have gone. It is such a relief to regain control of my mouse (well, almost, in view of the Spotlight aberration).

here we are, after months the same problem never solved.

I just want to write few words to a simple analyzing made in last days.

As I said, I use Photoshop and Wacom tablet and this problem was solved by java updating then after the last apple updates the problem come back again.

If i hide the dock I don't know why but the problem is less visible.

How to make going crazy the cursor, when I need to paint a big area with a big brush (did the same with a simple default photoshop brush) and I move the cursor over the interface the cursors start to blinking speedy and then it will vanish.

I did this test many times, as a user said , there is a OS problem about some service that "refresh" the mouse pointer that sure going crazy and crash.

During painting, I can do that for hours whitout any problem, the problem is somewhere in the OS when the stupid MONTAIN LION had to change the cursors from a brush to the standard cursor.

This is my analyzing, I don't hope that some one reads this a find a solution, but as I said many times I have no problem before mountain lion,this is the worst os never used.

Work with this problem is ... mmm there aren't many words to explain it.

I want to explain to all user that talk about battery, wireless etc that it's sounds like a software problem rather then a hardware problems.

Well, I need to add my voice, because my mouse pointer started disappearing just the other day. However, unlike many people with the problem:

1. I am using Snow Leopard, not Mountain Lion

2. I have Photoshop Elements installed, but have not used it since before the problems started.

3. I don't use Accessability features

The pointer re-appears when I hover over the dock. Also, it re-appears when I do a Command-Tab. My workaround is to keep pressing the Command button, let go of the Tab button, position the pointer, let go of the Command button, repeat the Command-Tab to get back to the application, then click on the Trackpad, trying to make sure not to move the invisible pointer.

A reboot will bring back the mouse pointer, but then it will eventually disappear, but I haven't been able to discern what is the cause. Since I use the computer all day for my job, it's very frustrating!
