Mouse cursor disappears.

Typically you can just move your mouse to the edge of your screen and click to make it visible again as long as you can click away from the front app window. Not as easy if you keep your window maximized or at full screen but you can always minimize the window via keyboard shortcut in those instances.

Hi Everyone, dont want to get everyones hopes up just yet, but since I've upgraded to 10.8.2 this problem seems to have now been fixed, its still early days for me so I'll report back if my cursor disappears again, but so far I'm 2 days in and my mouse cursor is still present and I'm swiping between screens and using Mission Control etc and so far no problem, has anyone else found this ?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I think 10.8.2 solved my disappearing problem. I've resized my pointer back to where I had it before ML, and in four days I haven't had one instance of a disappearing cursor.

If the update fails to solve the problem, as appears to be the case, then when combined with the elimination of the Google maps application from iPhone, this would seem to be an excellent time to sell short Apple stock. I thought the absence of Steve Jobs might mean the deterioration of the company, but I'm surprised to see it happening so rapidly.

Few products, including Apple's, get it right the first time. Even the iphone – among many had problems. I've bought hundreds of devices going back to the first Macs, but learned long ago not to be an early-adopter of a new OS. My motto was always wait a bit until the first bugs are worked out. Unfortunately, I rarely follow my own advice.

I'm simply adding my name to the long and winding list. I've lost the cursor several times today and I have always selected the "normal" cursor. And, as in previous posts, this has only occurred post-Mountain Lion installation.

Could the presence of Acrobat on the hard disk be a common factor?

I have this disappearing mouse problem on two computers where Acrobat is on the HD but not another where there are no adobe applications installed.

No. We see the issue across a wide range of apps as well as on new installs without Adobe.

It seems specific to apps that modify the cursor when inside or hovering over an object that modifies the cursor. Leaving the cursor at normal size seems to reduce the occurrence but doesn't stop it in all cases.

Here is another data point. Last week I set up a brand-new machine with a clean install of Mountain Lion and used it for 24 hours with no mouse cursor problems. I delivered it to a customer who took it home and set it up with a Microsoft keyboard and mouse. He also installed a few other programs (including Acrobat) on it and used migration assistant to pull across some applications from another Lion disk. Now he has started seeing the disappearing mouse cursor.

I'm a production newspaper designer and am also seeing (or more accurately not seeing) the vanishing curser problem. With production deadlines looming it is a very serious issue that wastes a lot of time and has only occured since the last OS upgrade to Mountain Lion (10.8.2).

As others have suggested, the fast fix is clicking on Mission Control and then returning to the task at hand but the curser vanishes again within minutes. I can't believe that Apple is not providing an immediate solution to this, ginen the number of creative professionals that depend on Apple computers for their living.

I too the designer and the photographer and it became very difficult to work! I thought that for was about problems from that year as passed with Windows to MAC OS, but also there was a big problem which don't eliminate. Very disappointingly.

Retoucher for a living, this is pretty poor.

The only work around I have found is to tab between applications - very annoying if you are constantly having to do this when the cursor disappears.

Not good enough apple and not good enough intuos.

Same here. Haven't found a fix yet either, but figured out you can just click on the menu bar ont top and it comes back. faster than switching to the Finder and back to Photoshop. Hope this works for you too.

You try to draw the whole world in vector and see what your excuse sounds like ;-D Too bad so many people have such a sense of entitlement from a free app without stopping for even a second to consider the scope of such an app. Also flaming and raving like a spoiled child will only reinforce the notion that consumers LOVE Apple and Pros do nothing but ***** at Apple. That said, Apple can you please fix the disappearing mouse cursor with your next ML software update? Thanks!

I use mass transit around and in NYC almost every day, so the routing feature is indispensible. My issue is more that I cannot go back to 5.1.1 because Apple doesn't allow it. I don't care about fancy vector buildings - I used google maps for its routing funcionality, and Apple maps doesn't offer this. I'm less interested in playing with vector flyovers than getting where I need to go as fast as possible, and google web app is not the same as the app.

Let's keep this thread focused on the mouse issue.
