Set snooze duration for Mountain Lion notifications

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and absolutely love it. My computer is faster and everything works more fluidly.

One change I don't particularly like is that I cannot set the length of time with which my notifications "snooze".

In the past, I'd get a reminder and I'd be able to specify whether I would be reminded in the next 5 mins to 2 weeks. Now the only option is 15 minutes.

Does anyone know how to tell Notification Center how long I want my reminders to snooze??

Thanks.

Could not say it better myself ~ why does Apple regress applications on a consistant basis! ~ Now I have to use a seperate program for my alerts ~ as time goes by it seems OSX is made more for my Mother than a business professional!

APPLE, STOP REGRESSING APPLICATIONS! ~ THIS IS YOUR WARNING ~ PLEASE DON'T MAKE GO BACK TO WINDOWS!

I was earlier annoyed at not being able to snooze for, say, a few hours or a few days. I haven't found a suitable alternative, but I've actually found that I don't need the capability as much as I thought. I have a 27" screen and simply leave the reminders up that I normally would have snoozed. I don't think that approach would work on a smaller screen though. I'm just mentioning this in case it's useful.

i think i'm gonna try to have faith in the hope of this one getting fixed in the same way as i do in regards to the return of safari rss feed support…

I for now at least am going to place my faith and hope in Jony Ive. That he's sees the errors of Apple's recent UX ways and is going to rectify our collective situation directly. If i'm wrong, well, at least we aren't Microsoft customers. But to quote Tim Cook from the recent NBC interview, i wouldn't bet agaisnt Apple.

I've been seeing a lot of posts to this thread lately. I posted a while back and I'm still hoping Apple is working on some sort of solution. I'm guessing the way it integrates with iOS makes it more complicated since they need to provide a solution that synchs properly across iCloud and linked devices. Still... it blows, and I wish Apple would at least acknowledge the issue and provide some sort of feedback.

That said... I wanted to highlight an interim solution that 'e-bear' (perhaps others) have pointed out which some posters may have missed:

You can click the pop-up notification banner itself (instead of the 'Close' or 'Snooze' buttons). This will launch iCal or the Reminders app (depending which you used originally) and the related event/reminder. Here you can change the date/time to the next moment you'd like the alarm to sound/display.

Obvioulsy, a dropdown with options on the pop-up notification itself would be optimal, but this is better than hitting snooze every 15 minutes or closing the reminder all together.

I doubt we'll find a third party app (as some have suggested) that fills the void since the best solution would need to integrate with iCloud and synch with all devices.

Hope this helps keep the sanity until Apple gets back to us.

I was thinking the same thing, but after a few frustrating weeks of alerts going off every 15 minutes (and less often by using the method you and e-bear suggest) I've realized that both the 15 minute snooze and the manual setting of a postponed alert do the same thing. They create another alert in the event, whether a calendar event or a reminder. These alerts sync over iCloud to my other devices after they are set; again whether manually or with the 15 minute snooze.

So, the Mac OS simply needs to allow for a pull-down menu, like before, to allow for quickly choosing the snooze duration with which to set the new alert. This would not cause any conflict with iCloud syncing and is nothing more than one would expect from the more robust operating system that we should have on our Macs.

(What really floors me is that for years I've hoped for a preference list that could be set per user for the durations to include in the drop-down menu. Instead Apple took the drop-down menu away all together. Talk about going backwards!)

Jeremy - thanks for the link. 😀 Same complaint from me. I followed your suggestion and submitted an "improve OS X" form to Apple. Here's what I told them.

"Please provide a way to set the duration of "Snooze" in/from the Notifications Centre pop-up in OS X 10.8.2. IMpO, it should probably be a parameter in the individual applications that generate the interrupts (not in the Notifications Centre itself).

It is necessary in order to use my work-day efficiently. It is not useful to be reminded every 10 minutes, of an engagement that is still several hours away."

As Jeremy suggests, above, everyone, please submit feedback directly to Apple here:http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html)

😠 10.8.2 & 4 months after Mountain Lion release and STILL NO SNOOZE FIX!

Whatever cool new features Mountain Lion introduced have been overshadowed by this one feature change. Like many others, I have relied on OS X and iOS alerts and the ability to set snooze times. Now, my workflow is interuppted every 15 minutes until I finally just give in and close the alert. This, of course, leads to the likelyhood of me missing a business meeting, a conference call, a bill payment, etc.

I've provided feedback regarding this issue a few times now via the Mac OS X form, but still haven't heard anything from Apple. PLEASE give some sort of indication when/if the ability to set snooze times will return to OS X!

If you haven't already, please take the time to give your feedback:

I've left my feedback, time will tell if they allow us to adjust the Snooze feature. I ran my whole volunteering on it, as well as many other much needed "taps on the shoulder" reminding me about deadlines, etc. Not every 10-15 minutes. I also think putting up with Notifications inflexibility can also "numb" me on the reminder/notifications since I have to click Snooze so often.

All in all ML 10.8.2 is great, I just wish the Notifications part of Calendar was flexible like iCal was.
