I just got an iphone 4 and when I go to sync it, it appears in the left hand column but when I click on it there is just a blank screen with the apply logo and a tiny lock.

I had to restore my phone because it was freezing up and now I'm having this exact same problem.. when I click on the iPhone logo on the left hand side of my screen it takes me to a page where all I see is a silver apple on the left hand side, a tiny black lock on the right and a blank white box.. Someone help please..

Same problem here... tried it on many computers. Put phone into restore mode, hard reset it, and even tried DFU mode but problem persists.

OK, I think I fixed it.

After trying to restore with an old backup from the phone (it estimated it would take 4 hours) I cancelled and went through the setup menus again, but set it up as a new phone. It then appeared in iTunes and I restored it from the computer, not the phone. It appears to be working, it's syncing my old apps right now.

Summary:

1. Reset settings on phone (hopefully you backed up fairly recently)

2. Set up as NEW iPhone in setup menu on phone

3. Restore from iTunes on computer when it recognizes the phone

4. Cross fingers

I am having the same problem. I just had to restore my phone. Though the phone shows up in the left column, all I get is a white page with the logo and lock and a rectangular box when I attempt to sync.

I tried these exact steps earlier with no luck. As soon as the iPhone went into the initial configuration mode (with the welcome screen in multiple languages), iTunes changed the device information screen to the blank info + mini-lock icon page.

I did that on my 3GS just now and it didn't work. I still got the same screen when I plugged in my Iphone. I've also tried reinstalling Itunes. It did not help.

this is rediculous there is obviously something wrong witht he update that we all did. apple support needs to get on this asap!!

Just tried that sequence. It did not work. I still have blank screen with Apple Logo & Lock symbol. Phone is working, just cannot sync with iTunes.

well apple support wont talk to you unless you wanna pay $30 bucks which i shouldnt have to pay since this is obviously apple update issue and not a general malfuntion or question
