iMessage won't send pictures after Mountain Lion

So I used the iMessage beta on my Mac when it was running Lion and it worked great . After upgrading to Mountain Lion iMessage will not send photos. It sends text just fine but photos do not get sent.

OS X Mountain Lion

It seems that only a small bunch of users are affected. But WHY ?

I have to delete

- com.apple.imagent.plist com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist

- com.apple.imessage.bag.plist

EVERY DAY. 😟

Interesting.

There were and are no updates for Messages or any of the support items regarding Messages in the update.

The 10.8.1 OS update released yesterday :

"This update includes general operating system fixes that improve the stability and compatibility of your Mac, including fixes that:

- Resolve an issue that may cause Migration Assistant to unexpectedly quit

- Improve compatibility when connecting to a Microsoft Exchange server in Mail

- Address an issue playing audio through a Thunderbolt display

- Resolve an issue that could prevent iMessages from being sent

- Address an issue that could cause the system to become unresponsive when using Pinyin input

- Resolve an issue when connecting to SMB servers with long names

- Address a issue that may prevent Safari from launching when using a Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) file

- Improve 802.1X authentication with Active Directory credentials. "

Hi Andreas,

Yes. In another thread someone also pointed out to me I had missed the line about messages and iMessages sending.

(I had downloaded from the Apple site rather than use App Store and had read it on that page as well )

However Messages in About Messages is still listed as version 7.0

It would seem it is one of the support items in System/Library/Frameworks/Message.framework

i.e. related to iMessages function but not directly part of the app.

HI,

It would be unusual for Apple to change the Build number and not the Version number.

What did you think it was before ?

I too had no issues under 10.7.x but have been experiencing this since updating to 10.8.x. 10.8.1 temporarily fixed the problem but it soon returned.

At least in my case, there is a quick and easy fix. Hopefully it will work for others who are experiencing this bug. Open up Activity Monitor and Force Quit IMTransferAgent. This can be done with Messages running. As soon as you Force Quit, all pictures (and messages sent along with pictures) will start flooding in.

Unfortunately, I seem to have to do this about once every other day. At least it works 100% of the time and takes minimal effort. I hope this will be addressed in 10.8.2.

I will add that both resetting my PRAM and deleting the previously mentioned files from my Library/Preferences also provided a temporary solution. However, neither of these are as easy as Force Quitting IMTransferAgent as they do not require resetting the machine or even the Messages application and the results are instant.

I don't know exactly *why* that could happen, but, as seen in another thread, resetting the PRAM fixed this issue for *both* by MacBook Pro (13") and iMac 27". And I'm quite sure it was the PRAM since I did the zapping one Mac at a time (MBP first), and just the one with the zapped PRAM was acting better until I reset the PRAM on the other, too (iMac). YMMV.
