Mountain Lion AVCHD Content is marked as private

In the new ML OS AVCHD content is now marked as a package, and yes you can drive down the contents by right clicking show package contents.

I don't want the OS or finder to rollup all the dir's off of say a SD card from my AVHCD format camcorder to private. In previous OS's (Lion) it shows the contents just fine etc..

How can I restore the ability to view the individual files and dirs without having to show package contents for each item?

Thanks

Howdy All

This frustrated the heck out of me too. All I wanted to do was to back my Canon 64Gb inbuilt camera memory to my hard drive, but as you all know ML won't let me see the AVCHD folder anymore.

I found that if I used Get Backup 2, it would see the AVCHD folder within the program no problem, and identifies the sub folders and files as per normal. Better yet, it can see what files I already have in "synchronise" mode, so I'm not having to work out what files are newer than my last backup

Hope this helps...

Beautiful, and I had the solution the whole time! I have Get Backup 2 RE that came bundled with Roxio Toast. I was able to create an image of my SDXC card to my hard drive and access the base AVCHD video with iMovie, Toast, etc without any further post processing.

I had yet to find a single solution to the ML/private issue and reading the SDXC card with the xFAT format.

For those who have Get Backup 2 RE (came with Roxio Toast) an upgrade to the Pro version is available through Belight's web site for $9.95 versus the full $19.95. Regardless, it seems like a deal either way.

Hi All,

Ok, here is my quick 'hack', based on 'grimepoch's script.

Open Automater and create a Service.

Drag the Run AppleScript action to the list.

Paste this script:

on run {input, parameters}

repeat with i in (input)

tell application "Finder"

open folder ((i as text) & "AVCHD:BDMV:STREAM")

end tell

end repeat

return input

end run

Set the option to:

Servive receives selected: files and folders

in: Finder

Save, I named it Open AVCHD Folder.

Now, you can right-click the Private folder on the card, and select Open AVCHD Folder... :-)

Hi everyone. I just noticed this behaviour today, and while I too don't like how I can only open one video at a time, let me give you a little example of why this is a GOOD thing, at least Apple thinks so.

I work at a broadcast school that shoots on Panasonics that record to AVCHD. We use Final Cut Pro 7, so my students NEED to Log and Transfer from the original folder structure, or L&T won't work. Every now and then I get a student who copies just the Clips folder off the card, erases their SD card, and wonders why FCP can't L&T just the MTS files. Heck, just two days ago I had an assistant instructor give a student wrong information about working with their SD card.

This is textbook Apple protecting us from ourselves. Just like with the iTunes, iPhoto, and FCP X and now OS X User libraries, all the contents are still there, just hidden a level so that the people who don't know what they're doing, aka my students, don't mess things up. If our iMacs were on ML, my students would ONLY be able to copy everything, so no more only MTS files.

I'm not saying this is right by Apple, I would be angry too if I had a workflow that got messed up, but hopefully this adds a little context to why Apple probably made this change.

Brian, I use Final Cut 7, I actually posted this issue on a new thread yesterday.

I take my cards and empty the entire card onto files on my external, then when I need to L&T, I can get to those files. Now I cannot because the folders are not there, just the avchd-QT. How are you logging and transferring now? I spent an entire day yesterday dealing with this, after upgrading to ML in the morning. I lost a whole day because I cannot get to my BMVD folders to L&T. It doesn't matter if I try it off the previous copied files or a fresh recorded card, same thing. So here I am again, new day and not getting any work done because I can't L&T. I produce a tv program for our church and that is a time schedule I have to stay ahead of (we have a different show each week), now I can't even get anything done.

Please tell me how I can L&T now. There has to be a way. I was reading last night about how to go back to Snow Leopard so I can do my job again. I really don't want to go that route.

thank you for any help.
