Mountain Lion AVCHD Content is marked as private

In the new ML OS AVCHD content is now marked as a package, and yes you can drive down the contents by right clicking show package contents.

I don't want the OS or finder to rollup all the dir's off of say a SD card from my AVHCD format camcorder to private. In previous OS's (Lion) it shows the contents just fine etc..

How can I restore the ability to view the individual files and dirs without having to show package contents for each item?

Thanks

Thanks,

What a stupid thing they did hear. I've been using a sony fs100 for the last year or so and my workflow has always been drag mts files to HD then convert to prores with clipwrap. I just upgraded to ML and I leep finding little things they changed that I don't like. I should have kept Snow Leopard. Hopefully I can downgrade without reinstalling everything.

Well I have spent hours on top of hours with all this mess. You cannot go back to snow leopard, I put my disc in and it says nope. So I had to take the route of creating a partition on one of the hard drives, then loaded snow leopard onto that, so now I use Final Cut on the Snow Leopard partition and it works like it used to. But it is like setting up a brand new computer with having to enter all kinds of info. I deleted all of the Final Cut suite off of Mountain Lion and did a fresh install of the entire suite onto Snow Leopard partition. There are a few kinks here and there that I'm having to iron out, but it's all wonderful! I just got it finished yesterday.

So now I have both OS's on one computer. I have a feeling I will not use the ML at all, I'll probably just make the SL partition bigger.

grimpoch and Jakob - Thanks for sorting this out. I just upgrade to ML and this was one hurdle I didn't expect. Maybe this is an example of when Apple shouldn't "think different" and stay with what works.

Brian - I hear what you're saying, but AFAIK this doesn't apply to some users. I use Premiere Pro to edit my Panasonic GH2 .MTS files without transcoding. For this work flow, I don't think there is a need for any additional data other than the raw video files. Being able to import only the files I need is a big time saver. If please clarify if my work flow could benefit from another method.

Here's another workaround: in Finder, rename "AVCHD" -> "avchd", and "BDMV" to "bdmv".

OSX now treats them like normal folders.

AND, in my case, all is well, because Premiere Pro still recognizes them as AVCHD directories for import into Prelude.

Since I drag the whole card onto my drive, this change will stay with it, only has to be done once.

Now it might be nice to write a little script or automator action that would lowercase the names automatically.

Next time I have a spare moment, eh?

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday, so maybe there are hitches with this trick, but thought it might help someone out.

I don't have trouble anymore with it, where we used to L&T all the way to the bdmv, now I don't go past the main folder itself. From L&T, I go only to the private folder and bring that in. It comes in the exact same way as it used to from bdmv. So whether you are bringing in from the card or from the computer, L&T the "private" folder and see if that does it for you. It does great for me. If I change the names of the files to make them into folders, L&T will not accept it.

I am still using the separate partitions, 1 SL and 1ML, if you want to try that, but I think you will do fine to do what I said above. I hope it makes sense.

Hi grimepoch,

I know nothing about scripts, so how would I modify this script to use in an automator workflow? Basically, we create several avchd files each week and need to rename them according to project and copy them to our edit stations. I want to use automator to create an app where editors can drag the avchd file, input the name they want for the files, input the destination folder, and automator extracts the .mts files, renames, and copies them to the destination folder.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
