black screen after login, Mountain Lion on Macbook Retina

I've been using Mountain Lion for a while, and regularly I get a black screen, right after the login screen (after entering the password).

Often I have to reboot several times until it boots properly.

It is not clear when or why it happens: it could be some 3rd party code (gfxCardStatus, CUDA 5.0 sdk, steer mouse, Microsoft Intellimouse driver?) or something else.

Does anyone else have a similar issue?

For some reason my issue seems to be happening less and less, it seems to be one in 10 restarts at the moment. Not great, but not the end of the world.

My main issue now is that my replacement has now developed the ghosting issue (which is why my first one was replaced) ...not the right forum I know, but it just feels like a really un-polished machine for the amount of money it's cost!

Gutted.

This is not a fix but an alternative way to solve the problem. Just as it is to use the guest account on the first login. And I am more afraid if I dont have the quest account opportunity. When I can not login on the machine anymore if this workarround is not working.

It's just beyond my understanding that apple does not respond to any of this before people get there system more in trobble, by trying alternative methods.

Hmm....This is just gone from bad to worse, now I've also got burn in on my screen. My first investment in a apple computer the macbook pro retina ! This has just not been the best decision I ever made. Will return the machine ASP.

I really hope that the new iphone 5 is of better quality than the MBR is. All the time that is used to get the product you have paid for. Sigh. Oh and i will never look at the Apple advertising in the same way anymore ...... Pifff yeah yeah ... right whatever. They're really not that cool anymore .. actually now they are quite funny. I really hope this is not the very best computer you ever made, and now the iphone 5 is the best produkt you ever made. Oh dear.

This is so bad its crashed for me 5 times this morning whilst using adobe Ai cs6 or chrome browser either on batt or power supply, also running a wacom tablet like some on here have been also(but this happened before i bought the wacom anyway). it randomly decides to crash ,shows white screen saying 'please click or wait to restart' type message then its back to login screen.. this is really bad even on windows with beta nvidia drivers and god knows the most amount of crap installed like virus checkers zonealarm etc its never doing these kind of soft reboots, just solidly on all day no matter what app i try ... wheres the driver updates for the graphics card/system? "apple why u no respond(trollolololllol face)" for this amount of money i cant believe its doing this, this will be my last apple product if they dont explain the fix soon. ?I CANT WORK APPLE YOU HEAR

I called AppleCare here in Italy today and I described the problem in detail quoting the Apple case number of someone who experienced this issue before. They seemed fairly clueless but quoting the case number helpedb as it brought them up to speed quickly and spared me all the usual elementary checks. Therefore, if you are in Italy and you are experiencing this problem I suggest that you quote my case number: 350175655. This will help the staff recognize the problem immediately and hopefully it will bring the issue to the attention of the relevant engineers faster. This said, there seems to be no solution in sight. AppleCare had no idea what I was talking about till they checked the case number I provided them with. I will probably wait for 10.8.2 and if this does not solve the issue, admittedly a slim chance, return the machine. Too bad as it was a really good computer otherwise.
