black screen after login, Mountain Lion on Macbook Retina

I've been using Mountain Lion for a while, and regularly I get a black screen, right after the login screen (after entering the password).

Often I have to reboot several times until it boots properly.

It is not clear when or why it happens: it could be some 3rd party code (gfxCardStatus, CUDA 5.0 sdk, steer mouse, Microsoft Intellimouse driver?) or something else.

Does anyone else have a similar issue?

If the fix was found in the last few weeks, it will not be in 10.8.2 at all. It will be in 10.8.3 at most, which means we're a month or two away from a full fix.

The hardware is fine, the issue is with OS X itself. The reason I know is because this never happened on Lion, only with Mountain Lion.

Just switch to Retina before sleeping or shutting it down and you'll be okay.

My retina macbook pro is always set at the non scaled resolution, and I get the black screen when waking up from sleep all the time. It happens every other day for me at a minimum.

Sometimes it won't actually go to sleep, but gives a spinning beachball and black screen.

10.8.2 didn't fix it and neither did the firmware update.

I have my machine asking for a password upon wake from sleep, if that helps anyone

Just installed the OS X 10.8.2 and the Retina EFI update 1.0 .... and restarted the rMBP 10 times. No black screen at all.

Just one observation though every alternate shutdown takes more than usual 2-3 secs time.

Its like

1st shutdown - 3 sec

2nd shut down - 15-18 sec

3rd - 3 se

4th - 15-18 sec

and so on ..

Booting time is consistant around 12 secs.
