Corrupt Attachment in Apple Mail (using IMAP)(on Mountain Lion too)

I have the same problem on all my macs. That includes:

- MacBook Pro 17"

- MacBook Pro 13"

- MacBook 13"

I agree with you on all issues:

- this MUST be a Apple Mail issue for all reasons you describe (also that all attachment can perfectly be opened on all my iOS devices. 2x iPhone 4, 1x iPad1, 1x iPad2)

- the problem accures with many files types, but the ones that i know are: jpg, pdf, exel, word

- when it is a photo the photo is half loaded and you can see half the photo and the other half is grey

I think the problem comes from slow or irregular internet speed. Obviously that should not be an issue and isnt with any other mail program.

HOWEVER, I found a solution that works around this is a pretty easy way. Its still not solving it, but at LEAST i can get the mails attachments and work with them, rather than having to forward the mail from my iphone.

Basically 2 solutions: I prefer option 2, as it can be done fast and each time the issue happens.

1. click the mailbox that has the issues
   1. go to Mailbox in the status and click "Rebuild"
   2. This will re-download all mails. its a bit overkill, but it works.
2. create a new mailbox inside the main IMAP mailbox account
   1. move or copy the message with the broken attachment there
   2. now do option 1) only for this mailbox
   3. then move the repaired message back

Such a stupid issue!!!!!

2 month later and several updates later this issue is still happening! It's not better rather worse.

I tried installing thunderbird and surely all attachments that weren't loaded in mail I could see.

Again they always load in my iPhone or iPad. Just not on my Mac. Or my wife's Mac. Or my partners Mac.

I hope to get some more feedback here.

its driving me mental!!! Its now almost every mail attachment that does not load correct! there must be something that can be done.

I also am not the only one.

Lion Server as Mail server and IMAP connections worldwide with Apple Mail client.

Any solution will be greatly appreciated.

Consider investing in somebody that can come in and look at the configuration in detail and troubleshoot this, or investing in and escalating this to Apple formally. Alternatively, see if an alternate mail server or an alternative mail client has the issues. This thread has been going on for a while after all, and this issue looks to be pernicious; I'd not expect this to be addressed here, and probably not without digging around with the clients and the configuration and the network(s) involved.

This is happening to me too, its terrible. SOME attachemnts are fine in Apple Mail but SOME show up as garbled text. I have to login to the GMail web interface to get them (because ther are fine there).

NOTE: when I first get an email in Mail it works OK... I move muy mail messages into another folder called Archive. Its usually when I want to go to an older message (which would be in Archive) that the attachment has this issue. I dont know if its related to moving into the Archive folder or because its older or some other reason.

Eitherway, the attachment is there and works fine in GMail so I think it an Apple Mail issue not reading it right.

this has never improved since so long. Its happening also on friends macs. its about the worst thing that can happen.

I also have the problem on a 17'' MBP running Snow Leopard.
