What's with Safari 6? Extremely unstable, scrolling lags, typing lags...

I upgraded to Safari 6 just before (using Software update, I'm using 10.7) and... it's completely unusable.

I tried to post this question using Safari but it crashed 4 times, so I'm in Chrome now. (No crash report dialog appeared to report to Apple.)

And it's slow: There are huge lags in typing. And long scrolling lags.

It's basically unusable. That's not an exaggeration - it's seriously completely unusable. Just the crashing alone makes it unusable.

Wasn't this tested?

I usually use Safari as my main browser and Chrome for testing, but I'm going to have to use Chrome as my main browser until this is fixed.

Anybody know what's going on?

It just happened again. I noticed Safari was slowing way down (the most obvious symptom being extreme lags in typing input) and saw it was using about 40% cpu. I quite and restarted Safari and the cpu use (with the same tabs open) dropped way down.

Definitely a Safari 6 bug, if Apple would acknowledge and fix it...

doug, I can't remember --- Have you told me what Safari extensions you have on there? Or extra internet apps? Maybe antivirus, security, firewall, Safari "helpers?"

My Safari 6.0 is also completely unreliable, and my whole Mac became a bit ******** since upgrading to ML. I've been a Mac user for 10 years, lately they seem to just rest on their laurels, unfortunately.

Bee, I have no Safari extensions installed. And no antivirus, firewall or Safari "helpers."

Updating to the just-released Flash plugin fixed this issue for me permanently on Lion.

Might see if that works for you.

Safari 6.0.2

Logged out of iCloud (System Preferences -> iCloud -> Sign Out. Elected to delete local content. Re-logged in to allow Safari bookmarks to download again. Restarted Mac. Lag gone. YMMV.
