Some serious problems with Mountain Lion

Hi everyone,

I upgraded my mid 2010 15" MBP to Mountain Lion 2 days ago, and I have some serious problems with my machine now.

- Wifi problem: like many members 's machines, mine has problem to connect to the wifi after sleep or restarting, I had to wait 10 to 15 minutes for it to connected to my home network. Anh I tried to remove all of my settings in System Preferences/Network and added new connection. And now it cant connect to wifi anymore. I'm writing this article while sitting on the floor with my Ethernet cable plugged in my MBP. I connected to internet through a DSL modem and a Airport Extreme as a bridge and Access Point. I also tried to set up all of my network device but my MBP can't connect to the wifi still.

- Keyboard problem with Pages: I was very happy with the new iCloud syncing for Pages documents but after 5 minutes, I met a big problem with Mountain Lion. Whenever I type in Pages with Vietnames Keyboard( Mac OS X built in or from another developer: http://www.trankynam.com/gotv/ ), Pages stops working immediately. I can still drag the Pages's window around but can't type or do any editing. After that I have to force quit pages. It is really stupid that I'm writing a book in Pages and now I have to stop my working till apple fixes this ridiculous bug. I tried German Keyboard as well and Pages worked flawlessly. Do you hate Vietnamese, Apple?

- Messages problem: Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I couln't send or receive any messages. It worked perfectly in Messages beta.

Does anyone have the same problems like me? Any solution such as how to reinstall Messages(I googled but found nothing)

Apple, please test your software more before release it. I feel like I have no computer at the moment because I can't work, can't surfing the web wirelessly and can't communicate with my friends.

You need to give Apple the details here (not buried in a billion other ML postings):

WiFi:

Widely reported. For some reason, since the release of Lion and now ML, SOME Mac's (NOT All) have been having problems with WiFi. There are numerous threads on the both the Lion and MBP forums and now on the ML forum.

No one can figure it out. No one fix for the problem and or No fix at all for Some Mac's.

Keyboard/Pages:

Have No idea as you are using a Non standard keyboard (Non standard for me maybe not for you).

Messages:

No Idea don't use it.

I did a Semi Clean install of ML. I created another partition on my drive and installed ML into that clean, IE Not over the top of my Lion install. Then I used the system when you first start the computer to copy all my Files/Programs/Setting from my Lion partition into the ML partition/OS.

So far everything has been working in ML. But then everything worked on my Mac with Lion.

So you may want to Restore your Mac to Lion from the Time Machine backup you did just before you install ML then try the Clean install method I used to see if ML works properly on your Mac.

- Wifi problem:

Try this:

-Disconnect your ethernet and reboot.

-After rebooting, go to network prteferences.

-Click the unlock to allow you to make changes

(If not already unlocked)

-Click the little gear thing popup menu

-Select Service Order and move the WiFi

to top of list.

-Turn WiFi on.

-Then join the wiFi network you want.

If that fails, then try deleting the WiFi interface

(Select WiFi, then hit the - button) then re add

it by hitting the + button. Then go through the

connect process. Also, if you want this to be

your primary network access move it to the top

of the list using the method above.

Thank you for your reply.

After 3 hours struggling with my Aiport Extreme Base Station and my mac, my wifi seems to work well right now. I reseted my AE to factory setting and deleted and readded all of my network settings. During that long process, I found out that the problem with my wifi was my MBP received automatically a ridiculous IP such as 169.254.170.0 instead of 192.168.1.4 as it should be.

Keyboard/Pages:

I submitted a feedback to Apple. Hope they will fix it soon

Reinstalling:

I really don't want to do a clean install because there are 200GB data on my hdd, and I dont want to waste 5-6 hours to migrate them from time machine.

WIll be part of the Issue as will be DNS issues.

mDNSresponder crashed with Handsoff! v1.5.3. After upgrading Handsoff! to v2.0.2, it works again.

In this case mDNSresponder also being stopped will stop DNS working.

I would guess if you have resolved these that you can Chat to people again.

@Ralph John: I use Messages only to chat with my girlfriend via iMessages on her iPad. And I think Handsoff should take responsibility for this bug.

@bobharris: I tried your solution before, but it didnt work. And I dont think my router has a problem because it worked flawlessly with my MBP in Lion and also my iphone and iPad.

My MBP still has problem with wifi after sleeping. I have to restart everytime to solve this(thinking of change my habit of putting my MBP in sleep mode into turning it off). At least, I can use it after restarting:)

I feel most Mac user should open system Preferences-.Network p[ane and disonnect from you wi-Fi for the monent. Thne while in the Network pane, at the top of the pane, is the 'location' drop-down bar. There in that 'Location' drop-down select 'Edit Locations...'. When Locations box appears select the + button and add a custom named Location (don't worry it will work better then 'Automatic'), calling it whatever you want, and then hit the 'done' button. Finally to save this new Location click the "Apply' button at thje bottm of the Network pane. Then rejoin your wireless network and it you Airport connection will work a lot better.

IMHO its good to make several Network pane 'Locations' and switch between them on my laptop. This way I can have my home network settings and my Roaming network settings. This keeps those two Network settings seperate so those settings never get crossed. Also in the System Preferences->Network pane don't be afraid of the 'Avanced Button and in the Airport card the 'Wi-Fi' mini-tab it is always good to delete old network connections you will never use again.

Today, the problem with my Messages appeared again. I couldn't send any messages to anyone(iMessages). And this was what I received in Console:

28.07.12 10:59:35,143 mDNSResponder[144]: queryrecord_result_callback: mDNS_Lock: Locking failure! mDNS_busy (1) != mDNS_reentrancy (0)

28.07.12 10:59:35,143 mDNSResponder[144]: queryrecord_result_callback: mDNS_Unlock: Locking failure! mDNS_busy (1) != mDNS_reentrancy (0)

Those code keeped spamming my Console 's Log over and over again.

HI,

It's a long time since I had to use that in iChat.

Probably about iChat 3

However I would say the info is still valid - that in same cases manually setting the settings can be better than letting the System Find them.
