Macbook Pro screen becomes blue every time a discrete graphics card is used!

The screen color of my 2011 17" Macbook Pro changes to blue-ish every time the discrete graphics card is used! That started to happen only after I upgraded to OS Mountain Lion!

Whenever I open any app that use Discrete graphics card by default, the screen becomes blue and looks terrible.. Applications include, VLC, Chrome (20.0) and I guess quite a few others!

So now efectively my Macbook Pro has just one usable video-card - the buit in one, because the discrete card (AMD Radeon HD 6750M) is not usable!

Here's some other forums set up about this problem, so it's not just me:

FileVault 2 is definitely one cause of this issue. I rebooted 7 times with it off, no blue tint. I turned it on and immediately logged in, launched the iOS Simulator (which always triggers this issue as it uses discrete graphics) and sure enough, blue gamma.

For those of you using an application to force to internal video, I would suggest against that. You are losing the performance of the discrete video that you paid for. Until Apple fixes this issue, just log out and back in after a reboot. This is less painful if you have an SSD than if you have a HDD, but it does correct the issue vs. crippling the performance of your computer.

Yep same here, FileVault is disabled, still get the issue. So far I have two workarounds:

1. With Automatic Login enabled, let the machine start and then Logout and backin

2. Disable Automatic Login and enter password to login.

I've been using option 2 for the last 5+ weeks, annoying as I prefer Automatic Login but entering the password is still better than the blue tint.

Still believe it's to do with the speed or order in which the colour profiles are loaded when started.

Could be - I had not thought of that one... but, I don't know, changing color profiles doesn't solve the problem. I am going to note your "Automatic Login" 'fix', though. If it comes up again, that's the first question I'll ask.

Good call,

Are you sure about this? When I upgraded to 10.8.1 I thought the same, but after a full shut-down and restart the issue came back. I also tried the re-installing trick for 10.8.1 which seemed to work but again after a shut-down and cold start-up the issue came back.

Note, putting the machine to sleep is not the same. When I thought the problem was fixed I let it sleep many times and the blue tint never came back, thought the issue was finally resolved, that was until I actually shut it down and started up a few hours later, and the tint came back.
