Macbook Pro screen becomes blue every time a discrete graphics card is used!

The screen color of my 2011 17" Macbook Pro changes to blue-ish every time the discrete graphics card is used! That started to happen only after I upgraded to OS Mountain Lion!

Whenever I open any app that use Discrete graphics card by default, the screen becomes blue and looks terrible.. Applications include, VLC, Chrome (20.0) and I guess quite a few others!

So now efectively my Macbook Pro has just one usable video-card - the buit in one, because the discrete card (AMD Radeon HD 6750M) is not usable!

Here's some other forums set up about this problem, so it's not just me:

Uninstalled Flash Player as instructed (removed from machine and safari), and it worked for a while, no more blue tint, but unfortunately it's back. No new updates or patches installed, so confused why the return all of a sudden.😕

Back to the old "switch off automatic login" for me workaround 😐

I noticed an interesting behaviour which might help someone competent to develop an easy patch for the program:

When the discrete graphics card is forced, the calibration utility is much less sensitive (expert mode). That means to properly adjust the screen one whould have to move the controls way over the limits of the calibration fields. Maybe the calibration is wrongly passed to /read by the discrete graphics driver. I could imagine a one digit shift (maybe a comma value taken as integer or vice versa)?

Im having the same issue. Late 2011, 15" MBP 2.2 i7 running 10.8.2 and a 128GB SSD....Sometimes i switch between tabs on Firefox and Safari and have the bluish levels spike on the LCD. Have not tried an external monitor to see if this issue is replicated off the onboard screen. But i have no updates to perform...So am I dead in the water?

Its NOT that big of a deal, but does cause my attention to stray from time to time when I concentrate on it.

Hi all, this happens to me A LOT and I have also tried various solutions to no avail.

Here is a trick to help you get your screen back (momentarily) so that you can restart your computer safely and work trouble free until the blue screen happens again.

Again, I know this is ONLY A TEMPORARY solution but I hate having to hard kill my macbookpro when I can hear it functioning in the background.

So here it is:

COMMAND + ESC

This will bring you to FRONT ROW and all you do is hit ESCAPE after that and your screen is good for a minute or so ... enough time to restart safely. (Note: If you run out of time, click Command + Esc again) ....

Hope this helps

Had an SMC firmware update for my MBP today in App Store. Updated it and when it booted back on, it had the bluish tint for the first time. I am a graphic designer and I immediately opened up my color profile system pref. When the blue tint is prevalent, it doesn't even show my previously calibrated profile as available until I uncheck 'Show profiles for this display only'. Unfortunately, selecting my calibrated profile still doesn't fix the problem, but I thought that bit of info might be useful for troubleshooting this issue (ahem.... Apple).
As for a fix, I uninstalled Flash player and rebooted and I haven't had any trouble as of yet.
