mosaic screensaver

Yes, I have my time machine as far back as 2008. I took the following items and restored them,

*DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefPane (has a small icone of a screen)

and the file

*ScreenSaver.framework, containing the following; codeResources (alias), file Resources (alias) ScreenSaver (alias) and Versions (file)

Am I missing something?

It seems that it doesn't work anymore after the update to 10.8.3 😮

hmm...i'm using Mountain Lion and can't seem to find either the framework or the preference pane which suggest need replacing with the Lion ones... perhaps i have misunderstood the instructions..

Had the same issue - mosiac stopped working again following the 10.8.3 update.

Fixed by re-re-storing the Lion screensaver framework and prefpane as detailed by Roland Dietz above again.

10.8.3 update replaces some files in the screensaver framework. It doesn't touch the pref pane, but I put Lion version of both back in place to be safe.

How would I get the Mosaic Screen Saver If I have never even had lion? I Bought my mac used, and it already had ML on it and the only backup that I had was a ml disc that the previous owner had made?

Does anyone have the files from a lion back up that would be needed to have the Mosaic screensaver? I never had lion, so I would have never been able to make a time machine back up of those files needed.

I can confirm (again) that replacing the OS 10.8 DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefPane and
ScreenSaver.framework folder by their older 10.7 versions works on a fresh 10.8.4 update.

I just did it 2 days ago on an old Mac Pro from 2008, but it took me some time to get it right: the first time I tried it with 10.7 files coming from an iMac 2009, but the mosaic screensaver option wouldn't work at all, displaying an "INCOMPATIBLE_ARCH" in the preview window of the pref panel.

I then rummaged in the backups of my Mac Pro, and restored a 10.7 version of the files, then replaced them as described above, and this time it worked perfectly.

So you need to specify what Mac model you're using in order to get the right files from a backup.

Just did it again, this time on my early 2009 iMac, jumping from 10.8.2 to 10.8.4 with a combo update. I also updated iPhoto 11 to 9.4.3, and everything works fine.

I also noticed that you could choose from more albums than before in the screensavers options, noticably gettings pictures based on locations, persons, Facebook albums (publiched with iPhoto) etc. I suppose these changes came with the new iPhoto version, which is interesting in the sense that Apple didn't break compatibility between the old Mosaic screensaver and the newer iPhoto.

And how about OS X 10.9 Mavericks? Does this hack still work, to recover the Photo Mosaic screensaver?

How do we get that wonderful Mosaic screensaver to work on our new 10.9 Macs?

We are very sad that this is missing, why would Apple take something as nice as this option out of their new OS?

Thats what Macs are all about, customizing and doing fun things.

I have my old iMac 24 inch, and it is 10.5.8, but nowhere in the LIbrary can I find either of these that Roland said to find.

/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework
AND

/System/Library/PreferencePanes/DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefPane

If I could find these from another computer, I do have my old 27 inch iMac which I just gave to my grandson and it has 10.6.8.

Then would love to add them to my Mavericks new 27 asap.

My classmates are awaiting this fix too.

Unfortunately it doesn't work anymore on Mavericks. I just tried it on my office Mac (a 2008 Mac Pro, just upgraded to Mavericks), and the old 10.7 screensaver files bug under 10.9. I get an unresponding grey tab in my systems prefs Desktop pane after replacing the 10.9 files with the older 10.7 ones. Maybe it's the iPhoto update from 9.4.3 to 9.5 that broke it.

I feel I won't upgrade my home iMac with it's collection of thousands of pictures I like to see in my living room sort of melding with that special mosaic effect.

The new screensaver has also a mosaic style, but it just shuffles the pictures around without that special mosaic effect. It's not as beautiful, but it could be enough for your classmates.

You can try to find the files on Mac OS install DVDs if you have them. Otherwise, be sure to get them from a Mac that has the same architecture as yours (don't try get them from a Macbook or Mac Pro for example ).

Ive tried a lot of things, but Mosaic is not going to work in Mavericks.

AppleCare people said so also, but they advised us to send in requests so that in the future there might be an upgrade to bring this back into the new OS.

But it will be doubtful.

Im a bit leery about digging into the OS and trying to change things.

But hopefully somebody will come up with a 'fix', or Apple might do something for it.

I too kept my old OS on my other Mac and still run Mosaics on it all the time as the primary screensaver with my favourite pictures.

I am dropping to Apple Feedback once or twice a month asking to return it. You all should do the same.

I think only the massive feedback to them might change something....
