OS X 10.8 time machine extremely slow, then stops working

after upgrading to Mountain Lion yesterday, I decided to erase & reformated my external HD to use with Time Machine in order to start fresh. It is the same HD I've used for Time Maching backups for the past 2 years and has worked flawlessly. However, when I started the Time Machine backup, it was painfully slow indicating that it was going to take 37 days to backup by 49 GB. I thought it might pickup speed after a while, but instead it just stopped working, displaying the message something to the effect that "no time machine drive was attached".

Anyone else having issues with Time Machine backups under Mountain Lion? Any suggestions"

Me too, but with a 2TB Time Capsule. It "backs up" forever, but never completes. There is never any backup data.

Me too......with a Macbook Air 2011. I left it for 12 hours and it backedup 19mb!

I am going to have to roll back to Lion if this is not resolved soon. A major pain.

Any solutions????

Me too... extrem slow, not as i mentioned.

On SL 10.6.8 the Backup was 10Times faster than now on ML 10.8 on the same NAS.

Same problem for me: Time Machine starts and runs forever without saving anything.

And in addition: I turned off Tme Machine in the Sytem Preferences and from time to time Time Machine starts again! There must be a sorcerer somewhere in the system 🙂

My Time Machine original backup has shown 'time to completion' ranging from 3 days to 1,201,347 days. Sound ridiculous?

I've been running Time Machine no for 7 straight days and have yet to see any results. I've tried most solutions I've found is discussion groups and none of them have so far shown improvements.

Am I desperate? You bet!!!
