So get yourself one of the many other RSS readers available.
Yes I could! But that's not about why I loved Apple as yet! And it's difficult to find a RSS Reader which could handle login conditions.

I just released a beta version of my RSS feed reader that is integrated with Mountain Lion's new notifications. This beta version includes support for feeds that require or provide enhanced privileges with a login. I have only tested the login feature here on Apple Support Communities. I would love to have someone try it on other sites. You can download it from: http://www.etresoft.com/etrefeed

Did Apple really remove RSS feed support from Mail in Mountain Lion? If so, that is a big step backwards.
Yes, they did! And a step backwards is just the first name!
I'm searching for a Reader which could read the following feed:
https://ilias.unibe.ch/feed.php?client_id=ilias3_unibe& user_id=XXXXX&hash=XXXXXXXXXXX
(I've anonymised the user ID and the hash)
Apple Mail was able to read such Links! Etresoft (V1.1 Preview) crashes while adding the Link!
Does anyone know a (free!) Reader which handles such Links as above? (With Mt. Lion notification integration?)
Google Reader can't handle the Link too =(
EtreFeed crashes because that URL is invalid. It has a space in it. If you would like support for EtreFeed, please contact me directly.
I use Vienna now, you could try...
I've been using Google Reader for quite some time but when logging in today there was a notice saying that Google Reader will be discontinued on the 1st July 2013. Gets me worried about relying on Google for anything, its not the first thing that they've discontinued.
I use the reader mainly for downloading Podcasts with just a few forum and news sites. There are many readers in the App Store but they do not give much information and there does not seem to be any way of contacting them. I cannot find a single one that says it will manage my podcast downloads. Many of the Apps seem to be written to use with Google reader, I cannot be sure which ones will work without it.
All the apps in the App Store have developer information. You should be able to find contact information. Reeder has announced they will be continuing without Google Reader.
Some developers offer free preview versions you can download for free. If there is a feature you would like to see contact the developer and ask for it. In July it is going to be an RSS feeding frenzy. I know one developer that will have a fancy new version of his RSS reader application out by then.
