Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

What was the name of the update?

There is no new update, it is probably the update that came out some weeks ago.

That' what I was thinking. But, I read that Apple had pulled that update from its servers. I had updated when it was first released in November and then did research after experiencing problems and found out others were having problems after updating. Then people were saying the update wasn't available anymore meaning Apple had pulled it from the servers. When I read this I searched Apple's support downloads page and the update wasn't there. After reading about an update on here (today) I checked the support downloads page and the update is back on, but still contains the same description and the same initial release date.

You know what guys, I think you guys are right, because I jus reinstalled ML 10.8.2 and it probably didn't contain that update and now for some reason maybe it popped up , anyways the description said that it addressed gpu performance I think it said something about update 2.0 or something like that

Seriously Mauro, what's the point in venting? And you really think Tim is in charge of creating this laptop? This is a respectable thread with serious inquiries about the retina MacBook Pro. I've gone through 3 motherboard changes myself, but you don't see me venting. You either go and get a refund, wait patiently for a fix, or do as I did, got Apple to replace my unit. Simple.

That solved my problem too! I've testing my 15 inch retina MBP with multiple applications and so far it seems to be fixed. Everything is smooth again when on the NVIDIA card.

Here's the instructions, with a little more info:

The fix involves deleting 2 preference files.

1) Macintosh HD - Library - Preferences

(note that this ISN'T the finder-go-option-library, but the root directory library folder)

Delete:

com.apple.windowsserver.plist

2) Finder - Go - Option - Library - Preferences - By Host

Delete:

com.apple.windowsserverxxxx.plist

3) Then, perform a PRAM reset.

1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys

Can you all try this fix and please post if it works? It would be fantastic to get some feedback to see if it solves the problem.

I just experienced something interesting. I downloaded SetResX and adjusted my interface resolution to 2880x1800. Everything is too small but the lag is completely gone. Previously I had some of my applications set to "open in low res". I changed these settings back to original to make sure.

Can you try SetResX and let us know if you still have the lag or not? I guess It'll be very helpful (If you confirm that you have no lag after switching to 2880x1800) to the people who is trying to find the reason of the issue.

There's still no lag after switching. Smooth as silk.

Unbelievably small, but smooth.

Few pages ago I wrote similar notice about utility SwitchResX, if you select (in SwitchResX) dimension (absolutely ANY) without HDPI everything works superb!

I changed the resolution to native ( max resolution ) on the switchresx but it still lag with safari, did you guys have to make any other changes? restart ? or what?

what exectly resolution did you use ??? with or without HiDPI ?

in 2880x1800 (not HiDPI) safari works well and of course webkit works faster even in that resolution, but we should not measure like this, i could show the video about lags and strange behaviour with and without HiDPi

How do I disable HIDPI ? anyways I don't think I have it enabled, If I set res to the 2880x1800 the lag is less noticeable but it's not gone, for instance try to extend a window from the corner ( resize it ) to me that is sluggish so I really think an update is required

anyone else that can share their experience?

Made the changes to mine, seamed to make a difference at first but its back to jurky scrolling and slow refresh now...

13" MBP late 2012

My mid-2012 rMBP 15" is not happy either. I've been in contact with Apple, but they blame the author of the software (www.renoise.com) I experience.

No fixes like, deleting files, resetting SMC and SwitchResX have worked so far. The developers from Renoise claims it support Retina display, so I'm kinda stuck (http://forum.renoise.com/index.php?/topic/36681-retina-lag-high-cpu-activity/pag e__st__25)
