Mail bug in Mountain Lion

i have the same problem as you and i don't know what to do cos i keep forgetting to change the address. I think the reply all bug is a result of the mail bug that you are talking about. Since we are replying with a different address that was used, then the original address where the email was sent is included in the reply all because it thinks that you are using a different address. does that make sense? and i hope we get a solution soon!

i agree it only happened in mountain lion not in lion. it was working fine with lion

I have the same issue as the original poster. I cannot afford to accidentally reply to my clients with an email address that they do not recognize. It's embarrassing and unprofessional.

This bug is causing me to look at a non-Apple email program.

I have just tested this and i do not see this behaviour on 10.8.2, so maybe its fixed

What ever account the mail comes in on, when i reply, it uses that account.

Not fixed.

If you create custom mailboxes for your email addresses and reply from them, it does not use the address the mail was sent to, it uses a default address.

Not fixed in 10.8.1 or Mail 6.0

It should be released soon,but i was just going through testing some stuff and i just tested this out and it works fine on my end.

I do know that they focused a lot of work into Mail with 10.8.1 and 10.8.2....So, i dunno...all i can say is that i do not see this behavior in 10.8.2 so maybe its fixed now...****, i dont know, i just know it works correctly.

I think what david is saying is that he has the developer seed for 10.8.2, and he thinks it is fixed there.

David: You can get into big trouble talking about developer seeds on public news groups.

I take it that you're a developer since you have .2.

To verify the issue, if you have a few moments, see if when a rule moves an e-mail from a POP account to, say, the iCloud inbox and then a reply is made. What is the reply-from address used?

But what if it isn't? Then you've violated your NDA and gotten people's hopes up. When 10.8.2 is released and has no change, people will cite your post as "proof" that Apple restored the feature and then mysteriously pulled it.

Don't worry though. I have seen no evidence that Apple goes after people for things like this. You have to really be trying to leak something. In theory, you could bring the issue up in the Developer forums. There are a few of us who have access. Most developers just don't get that upset about things like this.

For what it's worth, I filed a bug report on this issue. When I tried it in Lion, it behaved the same way it does in Mountain Lion. Then I went back and tried it again in Lion and it worked the second time. I only did that a couple of weeks ago so I would be surprised to see it show up fixed in 10.8.2. 10.8.4 would be more likely.

I also struggled with this issue, but figured out how to solve it (at least for me). Go to Mail.app -> Preferences -> Accounts and then click any of your accounts. Under Account Information tab, you see Outgoing Mail Server. It has a checkbox "Use only this server". Check this checkbox for each of your accounts. After that, when replying to any message, you can select the correct "From" address right below the "Subject" field.
