Mail bug in Mountain Lion

There seems to be a new bug introduced to Mail in Mountain Lion.

In Mail preferences, on the Composing tab, you can still set "Send new messages from account of selected mailbox." Unfortunately, this setting seems to have no effect and all new mail is sent by default from the first account in your mail accounts list.

Any idea how to work around this?

Thanks!

Yes, being copied on a "Reply All" is still a pain, but the basic "Reply" issue being resolved is the bigger deal to me. So, Apple, thank you ...

That said, the other bug should have been a simple rix, right?!

Agreed on the Reply All issue. If I get a copy of my own email, that's not 1/10 as big a deal as sending from the wrong account.

Regarding simple bugs, I have the feeling this may have been a patch job on top of something that's still not working correctly. That's why we didn't simply return to the older behavior. We can cross our fingers for Mail in 10.9 I suppose.

Yeah, I'd put this down as a partial fix:

1) When I reply, it now correctly is from the address that received the e-mail. So hooray, this major pain is fixed.

2) However, when I "reply all", it also includes the address that received the e-mail in the group of Cc's, so I end up sending myself my reply. This is not correct and a minor pain.

So thank you Apple for fixing the main problem, but jeez, it would have been nice to complete the job.

Concur with this summary. Since Mountain Lion I've been dealing with the "Reply to All" bug, which CCs the receiver's email address on all outbound replies (even when they're the same address). There's a CC checkbox in Mail Preferences that's not functional. Mail acts as though this is checked when it's not (see pic). I send a lot of email internally at my company. Nobody else CCs themself. It looks unprofessional so I have to delete my email address from every message replied to multiple people. Yes, it's a little thing but it adds up. Glad the more glaring problem was fixed but the job isn't done. This isn't news to Apple; several of us reported it.

I'm now running MacOS 10.8.3 and I'm getting the same results as DPBest. It seems that Mail should be using the "X-Original-To:" header in order to reliably determine the proper "From:" address when replying to individually addressed emails AND emails that are received via participation in a mailing list.

I would also prefer to NOT have my email address automatically included in the "Cc:" field of my reply.

Had same issues with IMAP mac mail. Emails were not showing in the sent folder.

This is what I did & for the moment it seems to have fixed it:

Go to:

>Mail

>Preferences

>Accounts

>Advanced

>Changed port to 465

That didn't work & emails were neither receiving nor sending

I simply changed the Port setting back to 993

Seems to be behaving now.

993 is the incoming port, 587 is the outgoing.

However, the "reply all" problem is serious. If you add up the number of seconds every day I spend removing my own name from the emails after I hit reply all, I am sure the number of man hours wasted on this adding up.

I have spoken to an Apple mail specialist at length, they recognize the problem and just keep telling me "programmers will have to fix it in an update".

This is a basic and simple fix and Apple needs to get it sorted out!

Cool your heels and be patient... it can’t get here any quicker than 10.8.4, as it’s the next maintenance release of OS X Mountain Lion... afterwards, it will all just be a bad dream...

My Mac Mail is now populating my reply address to someone else in my contacts. I have deleted the original account it was auto-replying to, deleted my primary account and reinstalled it, and am still having problems. I am not a tech wizard, so there is definitely potential for my own human error, but it's a big challenge trying to remember a reply-to when I am busy working.

And you don't think the code for the two Mail apps is similar?! DOH!

OK, stick with the OS X versions. It broke with 10.8. How long ago was THAT?! 😝

It's not like they don't know about the problem. Look at the number of threads about it. Look at the number of PAGES of post in this thread!

I'm still waiting for mine to break, so I can't answer that. But if you don't want to explain what is wrong, why you are here I can't help at all.
