How to add favicons to Safari's bookmark bar?
I am new to mac, but is there a way add favicons to Safari's bookmark bar like chrome does?
It is taxing to have to read through bookmarks instead of an image/favicon.

I have the same issue! I have successfully gotten Favicons to appear in Favorites Bar dropdown folders, for the most part (go figure...), but I can not get them to appear in the Favorites bar itself.
Overall, Safari runs more quickly using less power/resources on my MAC, so I try to stick with it. However, while the browser runs faster, the absence of these small features slows me down. I try to operate in Safari whenever possible, but end up opening Chrome repeatedly to perform functions that Safari does not support.
This is a issue i have also... and is very annoying, you have to take time to identify sometimes a website when you can do it easily with a favicon.
I was looking for something similar, especially as when I use Chrome I delete the name of the bookmark and just use the favicon - saves a lot of space and I recognise the sites faster that way anyhow - but I couldn't find anything suitable. So I made an extension and have submitted it to Apple, Favicon Bar: https://github.com/umfana/FaviconBar. It's basic but does the job for me, for now.
You could be a lifesaver, umfana. Has anybody tried this?
I made a dedicated page so people can find it better: http://umfana.github.io/FaviconBar/
Hope it helps.
Thanks!!🙂
Thank you!!!😀
Hi and just want to say thank you, the extension is SUPER helpful and is exactly what I needed. So lucky I checked this thread till the end. Thank you again.
Same for me: I have a macBook Air and iPhone, but I still use Chrome as browser, simply because of the icons in the favorites bar.
This may or may not work for you.
Go to Bookmarks>Edit Bookmarks, pick a Bookmark name to edit and highlite the name. Click on Edit in the top tool bar, at the bottom of the Edit menu you can choose "Emoji & Symbols" and pick one. The emojis and symbols are small and may not relate to the bookmark so I add a letter or two that keys me in to what it is. Helps me pick out the bookmark and as I use it more and more I begin to relate the symbol to the site.
Hope this helps.

Is there a place where we can push the envelope on making Apple add this feature? I've been annoyed by not having this feature available since I bought this mac.
Certainly this is not practical, full on ugly and counter productive.
I use Firefox on my windows pc and I sync my bookmarks from the iCloud application on it and it gets synced to my iPhone rather nicely, but that god-awful NO_TITLE thing makes the entire Safari application obnoxious to use. I saw the extension that Adam SW created (Looks awesome btw! and it is certainly a huge good step forward in the right direction) but unfortunately, it doesn't meet my criteria.
Maybe at least Apple can give us the ability to enable favicon on both iOS and macOS if indeed it doesn't meet the design specification. At this point, Safari is what I avoid to use on my mac and this is THE BIGGEST DEAL BREAKER FOR ME when it comes to using Safari.
Thanks.
This is an old question, but there is finally a solution. It turns out there is a safari extension called Favicon Bar that lets you drag and drop your links into it, therefore creating a favorites bar with favicons. To search for it and download it go to: Safari>Safari Extensions> search for "Favicon Bar"> install the extension.
Hope this helps...
