Help! How can I go back to OS X Lion 10.7.4 on my Retina MacBook Pro?

How can I go back to OS X Lion 10.7.4 on my Retina MacBook Pro?

I have a DJ system/controller by Numark. It's the Numark NS6 and it runs on software by Serato called ITCH. Well, ITCH keeps saying "Hardware Disconnected" when I run it. It is not picking up the hardware/controller (the Numark NS6).

It worked okay on OS X Lion 10.7.3 and 10.7.4 which cam with my Retina MacBook Pro.

This is a big problem for me. I need ITCH to work with my NS6 on my rMBP.

I tried to make a bootable version of OS X Lion on an external USB Hard Drive but it won't boot into it. My guess is that this Retina MacBook Pro came with a special build of OS X Lion 10.7.3 This build doesn't seem to exist anywhere.

I haven't tried the Recovery HD but it is labeled 10.8

Any ideas?

How can I go back to OS X Lion 10.7.4 from OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 on my 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display?

(Or make a bootable OS X Lion 10.7.4 external hard drive? The one I made from my Lion USB stick did not work. It refuses to boot into the rMBP but my iMac boots into it fine)

Thanks for any help!

Brian,

Sorry to tell you but the version of 10.7.4 that shipped with the Retina display was a special build - and many, if not all, of the folks who tried to use the Internet recovery feature in the Recovery partition had no joy in getting the machine-specific code to download.

If I were you, I'd take your machine to an Apple Store and tell them your problem. While you're in the store, they might be able to install the machine-specific version of 10.7.4 that you need.

Good luck,

Clinton

I cannot emphasize enough what Shootist pointed out just above. The OS installer that shows up when doing a Recovery reinstall is absolutely model specific. That's why the roll-your-own USB installer you mentioned when you started the thread did not work, yet was perfectly happy on the iMac. Now that the Snowy Cat is but a fond memory, and the Fat Cat (aka Lion) is fast on its way to join it, getting an correct installer on a stick for each and every Mac you possess is paramount, before the only cat to be found in Apple's servers is the Hillside Kitty.

There is no way to go back to 10.7.4 on new Mac's that come with Mt Lion, 10.8, preinstalled unless you find someone that has the Lion install files for use on the new Mac's saved eith on there system or on a USB thumb drive.

Apple used a special build of Lion 10.7.4 that contained the new drivers for the new hardware in the new Mac systems. Without that special build of Lion it will never install.

You seem to be the go to guy Norman but I have the same problem but I just received my Retina and it already has 10.8 on it. I tried booting from a 10.7 install boot drive but I just get a stop sign and won't boot from it. Any way to go back to 10.7.4 if the Retina came preinstalled with 10.8?

thanks
