Shortcut Keys do not work (Volume, Brightness etc.)

Hey,

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion (really great so far) but all of a sudden the shortcut keys for the Brightness, Keyboard Backlight Brightness, Volume and Eject have stopped working, which is weird as the iTunes Playback control shortcut, the Exposé and Mission Control Shortcuts do.

Please could someone help me here?

Cheers

Leon

'Screen and keyboard brightness and Volume keys' don't work:

MacBook Pro Late 2010 15"

OsX 10.8.2

Problem first noticed about a week ago after uninstalling LogMeIn.

Uninstalled LogMeIn and now the Screen and keyboard brightness and Volume keys don't respond.

Troubleshooting that I have done:

1) restart computer- Failed- many times now and still not working.

2) reset PRAM - Failed

3) Reset SMC - Failed

4) Tested keys while in bootcamp (win 7)- Success- so I figure it is not a hardware problem

5) tested keys in second mac user - Failed

6) insured all files from LogMeIn are gone- Failed (I think I have removed them all now, but still no go)

7) Tested Fn related functionality of Fn Keys - All work fine (when holding the Fn key), but just not the Mac related fun (with or without the Fn Key)

I am stumped. the keys clearly work, but for somereason the shortcuts to them have been deactivated or removed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same issue. if I restart the mac it helps but once i close the laptop lid and log back in the volume and brightness buttons wont work. but the F12 and other buttons do actually work. The shortcut keys also get reset everytime I log in. I can not format the machine. I develop on it an the hassel of that while I have so much work to do is un thinkable. Can't believe Apple haven't release or adviced on a proper solution! I found my retina macbook pro more buggy then my old 2008 mac model and that's running the same software and os..

This is the first post that addresses my problem but I did not know, until now, it was related to deleting LogMeIn. this makes sense since I recently removed that App from my MacBook Pro. I lost my volume, keyboard brightness and screen brightness.

I don't see any fix for this in any of the posts that I did not already tried, short of re-installing Mac OS.
