Sound stuttering after Mountain Lion install

The only way I can explain why switching out your RAM modules might have worked for you is a while back using Mac OS 10.3 Panther I upgraded my G5 to 8GB of RAM. After a year I started to have weird graphic issues and kernel panics locking up the whole machine. I discovered through trial and error one of my eight 1GB RAM modules became defective. Depending on which slot I put each RAM module in decided which module was used for recent storage of RAM.

So to explain what "might" be happening in your case is the data is not being written to that particular defective RAM module yet and therefore you are not experiencing any issues.

However with that being said I seriously doubt this is a widespread Memory/RAM issue but we should not rule that out either. I also have 16GB RAM installed in my iMac which I purchased from OWC, macsales.com.

I'm sure this is probably affecting Mac users with default Apple RAM installed as well. Any other users with this issue care to chime in with a yay or nay of default Apple RAM?

I also think this is not ram related, maybe it's because while switching, smc resetted or so.

I strongly believe that's a mountail lion major bug problem. i'll post tomorrow some news. and don't forget to give apple feedback as I did. This bug has to be solved immediately.

I've put my OWC out and the stock RAM in, turned the Mac on, got the same stuttering while playing on iTunes. I never had such a problem with stock RAM on Lion and Leopard, so, that to me is enough to show it's not a RAM problem.

Has everyone on this discussion board added RAM to their computer? Also, is there anyone having problems who is using a Mac Pro? This really ***** becuse I recently (last September) switched from a dedicated Windows user, over to OSX. I Started with Snow Leopard, and then Lion. Thats what I liked the most about Macs was the operating system just did what it was supposed to. Seams like Apple never owns up to their mistakes.

After watching a few movies and listening to iTunes i only noticed a single click hear and there inbetween 4 to 5 hours of use. i will keep you all updated after i use Logic Pro tomorrow - That normally sends it over the edge.

My RAM is all from apple too. (16GB)

The "stock" ram on my 27"imac was Samsung made believe it or not, i replaced this with higher ram spec also Samsung made so I'm not sure if the ram is the problem either, however....after the 10.8.1 update my stuttering and lagging has all but dissapeared, it is still there occassionally but not nearly as bad as before, there doesn't seem to be any reason or logic to a common problem regarding a fix going by the posts we are all making.

my iMac i7 has 16GB of RAM I upgraded myself! I don't think it's a RAM problem at all! Like most tweaks it will probably just work fine for a while once you've restarted after changing the RAM, but really it's just the restart itself that is a temporary fix!

I was going to partition my drive and install Mountain Lion from scratch and see how it works, but from the sounds of things it would be more of the same!

Meanwhile I'm going on 2 weeks of NO AUDIO PROBLEMS UNDER LION. I'd really like my money back for my ML purchase, it's been a joke so far! How could they have gone so wrong from one OS to the next?

There is no rhyme or reason why a maxed out i7 2 GB video card 16GB RAM iMac should be having these troubles! I have no hope left for ML if it is messing up the latest generation of MacBook Pros!

When I had Mountain Lion installed I could BootCamp into Windows 7 and listen to music and play games for hours without any problems! Same Machine, no problems! Seriously W.T.F. is with Apple, and what does everyone else have that is not causing them the problems we all are accessing??

As has been stated before, happy for you if you've found a work-around, but we shouldn't need to be working around a problem with convoluted processes like changing RAM on the 3rd Tuesday of the summer solstice... Facitious perhaps, but EVERYBODY in this thread needs to submit a report:

I also have a high spec 2011 i7 iMac - 27" 16GB RAM (installed by Apple), 2GB Card, 3.4GHz.

Sounds stuttering on iTunes, lagging mouse, YouTube video stuttering, regular freezing and crashing requiring reboot.

Never had any issues when Lion was installed on the same machine, nor had issues with similar software on a 2008 iMac.

I used to work on my Mac with absoutely no fear of the system freezing, it was the reason I purchased and stayed with Apple, solid reliability with hardware and software despite the high premium of owning their products.

Really disappointed that an 'upgrade' has resulted in a machine that I lack trust in.

I have also 3rd party ram. (2x2GB original+2x4GB additional=12GB Ram)

…so is there anyone without additional ram?

I don't know, but this COULD have something to do with the ram, what do you think?!

I want to erase and reinstal but will have to buy a 2TB external because of this s**t The worst part is they wont even aknowledge it.

What a joke. I guess they were to busy putting panorama mode into iOS 6 to be fixing this problem.

I just spent $2400.00 on a new laptop, boot it up.. oh great, audio skipping. I've submitted a complaint in the feedback form.. sigh.

@ArchiResearch do you use an iMac or a Macbook? I think this is important because the stuttering could have different sources (e.g. ram with iMacs and graphic chip with Macbook?).
