10.8 cannot "sleep" with Bind Server enabled

Hello,

I updated from Snow Leopard and now system cannot sleep (manually ora automatically).

I checked via "pmset -g assertions" and the problem is caused by Bind Server:

Assertion status system-wide:

PreventUserIdleDisplaySleep 0

PreventSystemSleep 1

PreventUserIdleSystemSleep 0

ExternalMedia 0

UserIsActive 0

ApplePushServiceTask 0

BackgroundTask 0

Listed by owning process:

pid 694(named): [0x000000080000019e] 00:09:16 DenySystemSleep named: "org.isc.named.denysystemsleep"

If I disable Bind the system can sleep.

Do you know a solution? Is there a bug in the new Bind Server or ML? With SL no problem at all.

Thanks.

Hello,

In my previous post I said I was accessing the server over Screen Sharing. That explains why there are some references to Screen Sharing.

I regret upgrading BIND. Could you explain how I can revert to the stock version of BIND now?

any ideas on how to troubleshoot the setting that prevents my Mac from entering standby state? I just run "man named" and this is the output I see:

DESCRIPTION

named is a Domain Name System (DNS) server, part of the BIND 9 distribution from ISC. For more information on the DNS, see RFCs 1033, 1034, and 1035.

When invoked without arguments, named will read the default configuration file /etc/named.conf, read any initial data, and listen for queries.

it looks like a part of the BIND service, right?

Thanks

But Bind is not your problem, and I cannot help you.

Don't worry, that was already clear. In the meantime, I think I found what the culprit was: the DNS Server service on the Server App. As soon as I disabled that (which, by the way was automatically enabled when I installed the Server App), the Server was able to enter standby state.

While it makes sense that a DNS server has to always be reachable -this would explain why it must be on all the time-, I was expecting even this would work even when de computer is asleep as per this feature description: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3774, and since the Sever App is one of the Apple native Apps, I also expected that the system would be able to put the system to sleepp while taking advantage of that particular feature.
