Much slower wake-up from sleep since upgrade to ML

Hello,

I am running Macbook Pro Retina and just upgraded to Mountain Lion. Everything is working fine except I find a much slower wake-up time when I open the lid.

On Original Lion the laptop was always waking up in less than 1 s. Now it's systematically more than 5.

I am wondering if anyone has a similar behavior and if this can be a ML issue?

I wish not to have to reinstall ML from scratch having to restore so many applications and settings...

I have tried PRAM reset but no help.

Anyone?

Thanks

Jeremy

I'm having the exact same problems on my brand new Retina Macbook Pro. Back on Lion my computer would wake from sleep mode before i was even able to lift the lid all the way up, now on Mountain lion it usually takes between 10-15 seconds for the screen to turn on. And an additional 5 seconds for the keyboard and touchpad to become active. The things I have tried are turning off icloud and power nap but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Im worried about doing a fresh install of the os because i dont want to lose any data and honestly it is not a deal breaking problem it is just extremely frustrating. I wish apple would come out and acknowledge the slow boot problem but if not i just hope the have some sort of update in the pipeline.

On my late 2011 MacBook Pro the slow wake-up definitely seems to be connected to Bluetooth. I'd got into the habit of turning off my BT keyboard and mouse AFTER closing the lid on the MBP - I know they use little power if they're inactive but it just seems like good practice. If I turn them off before shutting the MBP, or leave them on, wake-up is instantaneous.

I have the base 2.3/8/256 rBMP.

With lion, I COULD have few bugs like slow reboot or wake, but since I upgraded to ML, it's another world of pain.

1) I could rock all day on my mac with at least 7 hours of use, now I'm lucky if I can get 5 hours out of it.

2) The wake from sleep is incredibly slow, more than 5 secondes (it was 1 seconde under Lion).

3) The adapter can get very very very hot, never noticed it before ML.

4) It's taking millenias to boot and shut down.

I will grab my LION usb Key and put go back to 7-hours battery land!

Update:

I tried uninstalling anything that I thought might be causing either of the two problems I was experiencing (slow wake / mouse cursor jumping to upper left after wake) and nothing made any difference so I decided to try a clean install.

I starting by using Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my boot drive to a spare drive. I then erased my boot drive and installed ML. I used Migration Assistant to restore the user home directories from the clone. I did not restore applications or settings. I next started re-installing devices and applications a few at a time and then testing for recurrence of either problem. This process has taken a few days since I didn't work at it continuously. I now have everything that I want on my Mac Pro installed and It's working just fine, no issues. Wake is just as fast as it was on Lion or SL but I do find the boot time and shutdown is a bit longer on ML, I can live with that.

I'm on an iMac running Mountain Lion and suffering the same issue.

iMacs don't appear to have a Power Nap option in Energy Saver so, unless it's somewhere else on iMacs, that can be ruled out.

I've tried going in and out of sleep using the power button, or Sleep menu item, with Activity Monitor open to see if if there's anything obvious that's bottling up. What's interesting is that every time it wakes up a process called "ReportCrash" appears at the top (when sorted by %CPU in descending size)

Ihave an iMac 27" (mid 2010) and upgraded from SL to ML two weeks ago. Same issue - very slow to wake on keyboard click and mouse also had to be clicked to respond.

Was hoping for an Apple update to fix the issue but yesterday decided to call the Apple Care helpdesk - so that they could earn some of the dollars I had spent on signing up for it. Was stepped through a hard boot:

- Shut down machine

- Unplug main power cord from monitor for 10 seconds

- Turn on using power button and immediately hold down Command+Option+R+P keys

- Continue holding this key combination for three full cycles of the start up "chime"

Wake up time is now back to same instantaneous response as prior to ML upgrade. Not sure if this "fix" will work for everyone having the issue but might be worth a try.

Thanks to all for updating this thread. Only thing is I'm not sure if Apple is actually looking into this at all? Shouldn't this site be updated as well by apple engineers? This new MacBook Pro was awefully expensive and if they can't address a serious issue like this i'm starting to get a little frustrated.

I understand they are fixing battery issues in the new update (loss of 20 to 30% after upgrade to ML).

That makes 2 serious issues...

Any Technical Apple expert willing to spread some light on this one? Seems quite reproducable issue...

Now if I am 100% sure the "re-install from scratch" option is the way to go then I will do it but since I have so many apps and configurations I'd rather wait for an eventual fix...

  • My bluetooth is constantly switched off so I doubt it's the root cause but it could definitely be part of the equation..
  • Typical reproduceable case would be :
    • I'm at work, Magsafe plugged in with a dual display setup (external 24 inch screen) and connected to LAN
    • I unplug power safe and external display + lan USB cable
    • I close the lid
    • I go home
    • open the lid
    • 10 seconds minimum with black screen time as well !
  • Other cases would be just close and open hours later on different wifi spot for exampl..

Anyone knows what are the process IDs related to sleeping and waking up? maybe i could try to monitor them with a script..

Thanks again...

J.
