Much slower wake-up from sleep since upgrade to ML

For what it's worth, I tried BT on and off an on my MP it didn't make any difference. Most of the people (maybe all) on this thread have MBPs so it may not be directly comparable to my MP. Since doing the clean install and partial Migration Assistant restore my MP has been running great. I'm going to wait a bit before doing the 10.8.1 update.

Also, for info only, I have an Win XP Parallels 7 install as well as both Win XP and Win 7 BootCamp installs. All that worked fine both after doing the ML upgrade and after doing the ML re-install.

Updated to 10.8.1 today, and it seems because of this, my MBA 13" wakes up slightly slower than before the update. It used to wake up instantly if the screen/lid is not closed, now, it takes ~3 seconds to get up (like when the lid is closed for long sleep).

This is annoying, not only the battery issue is not fixed with this 10.8.1 update, now an extra issue with wake up!

If you close the computer right now for 10 seconds, does it still take too long if you open it after? Or is it only after extended periods of sleep?

~3 sec to wake up just after a brief sleep (like away from my desk for a bit and then come back), as what I was trying to say. Before the update this morning, it could be awaken instantly.

I just did the same thing and it also took about three seconds, but it doesn't seem much longer than it usually does. In fact, if I open it after a few seconds my screen is still on with the cursor but is all black, and it wont go to sleep until I close it again. Weird. Do this for me.

1. Open Console (Easiest way is to click spotlight at the top-right and click "Console")

2. Make sure "All Messages" is selected on the left

3. Click "Clear Display" at the top left.

With the now blank console still open, leave it up and close your laptop. Wait 10 seconds. Open it up and return from sleep. Select all of the console log entries and paste them here.

I really do realise the slower wake up. I notice this because I was impressed with the instant wake up from short sleep (compared to my old MBP 15"). Then since this morning after 10.8.1 update, it became slower...

Disable your wifi and any other active internet connections and do it again. Don't worry about pasting the log, just let me know if the startup time changes at all.

Yeah, I was suspecting this too when I read the log. And yes you are right, it becomes quick again (though not sure if it is as instant as before).

Are you on a university network that requires any sort of authentication?

Yes I am working in a lab within a university. But, I have been using my new MBA like this since last month (when I purchased it with lion, then upgraded to ML and having the battery issue, then now wake up issue). Never had this annoying experience before with my old iMac and MBP.

Last question, I think I know what the issue is but I wont be sure until you answer.

Once it resumes from sleep, are you already connected to your wireless network? Or do you resume from sleep and then wait for it to connect? Basically, is the wifi signal already filled in or does it pulse back in forth for a moment before connecting once you resume from sleep?

The wifi appears filled already right after I wake it up.

It's delaying to connect to Wifi. I noticed that mine is too, where before it would immediately resume and then connect. It seems that there may be something new that has your computer connect as soon as you wake, so that once the screen comes on you're immediately connected. Would explain the delay, your network at school or in the lab may have slower authentication baesd on it's configuration or how many people are using it. I don't think this is an OS issue, I think it's just that.

You are possibly right. But I still suspect something is wrong, or has been modified, with this 10.8.1 update, because this delay only happens to me after I made the update (with the hope to improve my battery life back to it used to be on Lion). Anyway, thanks for attending my issue, at least I know it's probably something to do with the wifi/network connection.
